Hi everyone,
I was wondering whether anyone of you has ever connected a portugal trip with madeira? Has anyone ever been there? Can you recommend it? I guess I would probably have to book a flight as a ferry would take ages, right?
Many thanks in advance!

Hej,
there is a ferry operated by Armas, running about once weekly from Portimao to Funchal. Travel time ~21-22h, prices from ~90€ depending on category. Portimao is one the Tunes - Lagos branch of the Algarve line so easily reachable from Lisbon.
It is certainly a much more interesting way to go than just to take a plane. :)

ok thanks - it just came to my mind. but i would probably still book a flight rather than spending 22 hours (1 day!) on a ferry.. i mean you would lose a whole day from your vacation. and a flight will probably be about the same price, if not even cheaper.

Yeah, well of course the plane will be faster, although I personally think this a rather dull way of travelling. If you go by ferry, you get a much better feeling of the real distance (similar to going by train), although probably not every one will at first like to sit at deck the whole day. For me this would be interesting even a bit adventorous...but if you do not have much time I can understand that you prefer the plane, especially considering that you have to get back to the continent as well. ;)

Just for the record you can book via easyjet a cheap flight to Madeira.
