Hi!
This is rather tricky and probably not worth the effort since you would need one or probably two overnight stays along the way which you could spend in a night train instead (for a small reservation fee).
Depending on when you are able/willing to leave Ancona, you can get to Nice with regional trains only...then with a Lunéa night train (reservation for a reclining seat starting at ~2€, depending on when and how you get it) to Paris, change stations (Austerlitz to Nord) then go to Dover via Amiens and Boulogne. Take a ferry to London (P&O, about 25-30€) and from Dover Priory you have frequent connections to London Victoria and Charing Cross (and St Pancras if you are willing to pay a small supplement for the High Speed Shuttle).
If you need more details, let me know.

Hi.
The session of the schedule planer timed out. You have to copy it here inside. Easiest way is just to click print view, then copy it and paste it here. :)
Is your friend travelling by Interrail or by single train tickets?
No the cheapest way, but in one day:
Ancona dep: 0728 - IC
Milano Centrale arr: 1125
Milano Centrale dep: 1225 - EC
Geneve arr: 1618
The change here might be a bit short, as the EC is sometimes in delay.
Geneve dep 1629 - TGV
Paris Lyon arr: 1952
Paris Nord dep: 2113 - Eurostar
London St. Pancras International arr: 2236
The reservation fees for these trains are listed here - you see, it is expensive, except your friend is using single tickets to special fares.

Anonca - Nice:
Ancona 0713 - 0938 Bologna :arr: ICN, 3€ reservation recommended but not compulsory
Bologna 0952 - 1230 Milano Rogoredo
Milano Rogoredo 1239 - 1417 Genova Piazza Principe
As this includes a night train at the beginning and rather tight connections at both Bologna and Milano, maybe it would be better to with this option:
Ancona 0630 - 1102 Piacenza
Piacenza 1117 - 1157 Voghera
Voghera 1315 - 1417 Genova Piazza Principe
Genova Piazza Principe 1453 - 1731 Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia 1747 - 1834 Nice
Nice 2000 - 0737 Paris Austerlitz
Paris Nord 1004 - 1251 Boulogne
Boulogne 1311 - 1348 Calais Ville
Calais 1520 - 1550 Dover :arr: P&O ferry, ~35€
Dover Priory 1657 - 1852 London Charing X
