Hi,
First of all, I am so very happy to discover this site and forum . Great work!
I am from Stockholm and am traveling between the 12th and the 20th December. Will appreciate help regarding route.
I am thinking about buying 5/10 interrail global card, and will be most happy if I get to explore a bit of Germany and Swiss.
Could you help me pull this trip off during this period. Should one book a Stkhlm-Berlin airticket (costs abt 60 Euros), and then travel? How should I travel back home?. Other more exciting route advise is also most welcome as am quite flexible.
Thanks alot!

Hi Ed,
isnt it quite late to get cheap plane tickets if you want to leave on the 12th already? I'd instead go to Malmö or Kobenhavn with a regular SJ ticket (you can get 50% discount on that with your IR pass) and then take a night train to Berlin. The Malmö - Berlin option would be more convenient as it arrives around 6am, whereas the night train from Kobenhavn arrives around 4am already since it continues to Praha.
For Berlin - Wien you could think about a night train again, or go during the day via Praha - you could take the first train to Praha, spend some time there and continue to Wien in the afternoon if you want.
Then to München with Railjet and on to Bern via Zürich.
Or, go Berlin - München first (day or night) then to Wien with Railjet and finally with an overnight train to Zürich and onwards to Bern. Going during the day would allow you to watch the scenery (rather nice from Salzburg via Innsbruck to Zürich) but it is a rather long trip.
On the way back home, you could take the direct night train from Basel to Kobenhavn, however you would then lose a bit of time since you'd arrive in Kobenhavn in the morning of your 10th day. If you want to get the maximum out of your ticket you could think of taking the overnight to Hamburg instead, spend the day there and go to Kobenhavn - Malmö in the evening and then with the night train back to Stockholm.
If you need more details, please let me know...but I'm in a little hurry right now.. :)
