Having made this journey in February, I can recommend it! It's about £30 single in a 4 bed compartment, but bear in mind it was dead when I went...so there were no other English speaking people on board, except the woman I shared a compartment with who was lovely.

It's easily booked at Tbilisi's main station at counter 14 which is dedicated for English speakers, but if this is shut, you can go try another counter, although I recommend booking earlier in the day, as the counter shuts fairly early by British standards!

You will get an exit stamp leaving Georgia, and even get questioned by the Azerbaijani officials - this is NOT to be feared, it is just standard procedure, and they do this to every passenger, including Azerbaijani nationals! (although personally I was very worried, as I had Armenian stamps in my passport before using this train...! but they never questioned it!)
