Hello,

This is my first post and hello to everyone. I am planing a trip next year during May. I have a relatively small budget and I will be travelling with my girlfriend. Total budget will be 1000 Euros and I will have 300 euros as backup. The trip will be 14 days.

My goal is to start from Rome but Pisa can be a choice also. I am new to travel by Inter-rail but the idea fascinates me totally. Since young I loved to travel by train and I don't feel the tiredness of train at all.

Since I want the option to travel by night, I really would prefer to sleep in the train in a two bed cabin. Is that possible within my budget?

Could someone help me indicate me step by step? I want to have a great 15 days discovering Europe and I would love to hear your feedback.

Thank you

Hej!

You havent filled in your profile yet so I dont know where you are from which is important as you cannot travel for free in your country of residence.
Are you from Italy - since you are making a round trip? Or do you want to fly there/back home?

For this trip an interesting option could be to take the 5in10 Global Pass - with it you can cover 5 of 6 travels you are going to make. For the remainder I'd recommend to get a regular ticket bought in advance (for the leg Roma - Venezia), this will be cheaper overall.

Overnight travel makes sense on the following legs:

Roma - Venezia
Venezia - Wien
München - Paris
(Paris - Pisa: no direct train but you could go to Firenze and change there; however there is the possibility that the Paris - Firenze - Roma night train wont run in 2012)

For the prices of reservations for the different categories you can search the night trains here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

Is your 1000€ per person or for the both of you?

Hello Flow!

Thank you so much for your reply. You are right, I will be starting my journey from Italy and I am not from this country.

I can make a return Paris - Firenze. I like this option. Thank you for the idea.

The budget will be 1000 euro for tickets + hostel (3-4 days) and food. 300 euros are as a backup. This is the total budget for 2 persons. 10 days are what I am thinking to spent. So following your advice I am planning this trip:

Roma - Venezia (italian ticket)
Venezia - Wien
Wien - Praga
Praga - Munchen
München - Paris
Paris - Firenze

Please clarify me on this night train sleeping option. what are the prices? I was reading that reservation for a Couchette or a Sleeper could go from 40 -80 euros. Any idea please?

Thank you again,

Hej,

if you follow the link I posted above you can select each country of the left side to see all night trains departing from the chosen country. If you then select one night train you get the timings and reservation costs for all kind of accomodation that is available on that night train.

169€x2 (2 5in10 Youth Global Pass IR tickets)
30-70€x2 for Roma - Venezia; this varies upon train category and time of purchase!
70€x3x2 3x2 reservation for double sleeper - this is an estimate, please refer to the night train sites I mentioned above for exact prices

Makes already more than 800€ just for travel (of course with the high comfort of 2bed sleepers)!

Hostel costs in Wien and München are ~20€ per night; in Praha it starts at ~10€, Paris ~25€
