hi everyone,
i'm new to the interrail thing, so I'll just ask away :) I am going to travel in December, and thus I will need to make some reservations for trains that have this as compulsory. but as I try to find the train that I need, it seems not to be there at all. So I deduce that I'm too early and that there is some limit of prior booking. So my question is - what time before the actual journey should I book the seat in the train? f.ex. Madrid-Barcelona, on 12.12.11, when should I return to see this route available on the reservation website?
thanks in advance,
cheers

Hi!
The problem in this case is the timetable change on 11th december - it will still take a little while until reservations after that date will be available. Usually, you can make reservations up to 90 days in advance, but this depends on several factors (train category, country,...).
I'd say try again in two weeks or so... :)

it varies per country-and sometimes per train-category. The norm always was/is 2 month advance-only since a few yrs some countries have moved it forward to 3 month (to the mayhem and/or anxiety of the regular flyer-most think that a RES 4 month advance already sees ''full'' trains-in practice it is not open yet). And yes-around 12/12 (2nd sunday in december) most railways change their times-and a computer will only list what is known-not what is still in doubt. By tradition the mediterranenan ralways are always quite late with it-do not panick. And as in about every country of this world: there are busy and nonbusy days, which will also effect the ''fullness'' of trains.

the thing is that I checked on the RENFE website, there this train is listed and one can buy a ticket for it freely. however there I see nothing regarding passholders and any kind of reservations. maybe my Spanish is not so good, but still I'll try again on the railcc in two weeks :)
