I'd like to take the nighttrain from Zurich to Belgrade without having an Interrail-Ticket. Where can I purchase a regular ticket for this journey?

Here on the website of the Serbian railway company is some information as well:

Fill in Beograd and Zurich.
An online purchase of the ticket isn\'t possible as much as I know.

Hi!

I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but I was wondering if there are any special offers for this train when you buy a ticket in the train station. I just enquired with SBB about the price and it would be about 180 CHF for a 6-berth compartment, and as of Zagreb you have to change for a seat in another part of the train. Even though I think it's reasonable, I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper if I buy it just a couple of hours or maybe a day in advance. (In that case I can still decide to stop over in Zagreb or not.) Or would it be more expensive? I enquired today for a ticket in a bit more than 2 weeks' time. Unfortunately I just turned 26 so Interrail got a bit too expensive for me :(

Cheers,
Sietske

Hi Sietske,

it should be possible to get cheaper advance fare tickets online from ÖBB...however only as far as Villach in Austria, from where you would need a regular ticket to continue. These would start at 29€ for a seat and 39€ in a 6bed couchette. In Villach you would have to change to the through carriage to Belgrade via Ljubljana and Villach...and still need a regular ticket for that leg, of course.
The 29€/39€ tickets need to be bought in advance whereas you could buy a regular international ticket right before departure as well. Such an international ticket would be valid 2 months, so you could get a ticket to Belgrad and make a stopover in Zagreb with it, then continue to Belgrad. Remember that you will need a reservation for the night train if you start in Zürich.

Overall, it might be worth looking at a IR pass even if you are above 26... :)
