Myself and 3 others will be travelling on this night train on the 18th of November, would you recommend reserving beds now before we leave, or would it be okay to reserve beds on our arrival to Budapest on the 16th at the station?

Thanks in advance,

Kerryn

Hi Kerryn.
You can never preview if a train is full or not on a special day. But in November it should be fine to book the night train on your arrival in Budapest.
An option is to buy the reservation in an other country at a large railway station before you arrive in Budapest. For example Prague, Vienna or Berlin.

I'm wanting to take a night train from Budapest to Krakow on the evening of the 19th of December, this year.
Would you have any particular suggestions on which line to take (earlier/later in the evening, etc.)?

Thank you!

Hello Shayne.
Night train here: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-krakow-en-476/137
Pre-booking time 2-3 months in advance.
So you will still have to wait a little bit until you are able to purchase the ticket.
Buy your tickets here: [ux]https://rail.shop/mav[/ux] and pick it up at the station Budapest Keleti at the ticket machine. Very easy, you just have to fill in your booking number and get the ticket - main entrance and then turn right to find such a ticket machine.

Hello everybody,

Me and by friend want to do an interrail trip through eastern europe in March. During this trip we want to take the night train from Budapest to Krakow. We've tried to reservate it everywhere, but on the hungarian webpage it seems not be possible to reservate this train on any day and in the shop of this page one can only buy the tickets, not just only reservate. I also tried to book them at a large railway station in Munich but they could not access the hungarian booking system.

Can anybody help?
Thank you in advance,
Angela

Hi Angela,

you could only try again at the station (or any DB outlet near you). There's still some time to go so you should not worry about getting on the train.

I think the direct train no longer operates...

I've checked the Swiss sbb website and there isn't any direct connection between both cities at night, which comes as a huge disappointement as I had already booked accomodations counting on the possibility to make the Budapest-Krakow journey by night. Now I have to make two train changes in the middle of the night in order to get to Krakow.

Of course the direct night train still operates, dont be fooled by erroneous schedule planners.

I tried to reserve a bed for the Krakow-Budapest night train at the ticket offices at Berlin Hbf and at Berlin Ostbanhof, but none of the DB employees had ever heard of a direct train between the two cities. Their computers only showed connections with at least one change in the middle of the night. Maybe I'll have to wait until I arrive in Poland before I can reserve? I think this is a bit strange...

I fainally managed to buy the reservation ( :D ), but I had to go to the ticket office at Krakow Glowny (departure station for the actual night train) to get it. At Warszawa Zachodnia i had to give up, after having tried several of the ticket boxes.

Glad you finally got your reservation! Normally, it _should_ be possible to make it at other stations as well...I dont know what was the issue in Warszawa. In Germany, you had bad luck with staff that did not know much about this train and who was scared since the train is not shown properly in the online schedule planners (which is a shame, but I cant do nothing about it): The Krakow - Budapest coaches are not a proper train themselves but only through carriages carried in three different trains: Krakow - Bohumin with the Krakow - Praha night train; Bohumin - Breclav with the Warszawa - Wien night train; Breclav - Budapest with the Berlin - Budapest night train.
What did you pay?

That's great!

So, probably I'm only going to able to make the reservation in Budapest on the day before my trip to Warsaw. Do you happen to know if there's usually a high demand for this train? I'm worried it might be fully booked by the time I get to Budapest...

B SMART and TELL what type of accomm. That all SEATS are full is highly, highly unlikely,. Also B even smarter and READ carefully the explanation above: its a THROUGH car, shunted-which clearly means (trains are not planes-they can add or move cars) you could in the highly unlikely event of fullness use the other cars and change into that glorious example of renovated socialist crumbling concrete station of katowice. The even smarter ones then go via the oblifatory Oswiecim,_Auschwitz-then you have already doen that.

The type of accomodation would also naturally depend on the prices charged. Maybe I'd prefer a two-bed compartiment but that's secondary at this point. As long as I make the journey...

There are no seats on the Budapest - Krakow through cars, only couchette and sleepers; fares: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/budapest-to-krakow

You can of course use the seated cars on the portion to Warsaw until Katowice and then get on a train to Krakow there (reservation required) or leave in Bohumin already and change to the seated cars from Prague to Krakow:

Ok, hopefully I'll still be able to get a 2-bed compartment on the direct train then.

Thank you!
