Maybe I'm being silly but I can't seem to find a route between Split and Zadar.

I am hoping to travel from Sarajevo to Mostar and then from Mostar onward to Zadar. Obviously that isn't possible by train but I can get a bus from Mostar to Split and I assumed it would be straightforward enough to travel from Split to Zadar back on the trains but so far I've not had much luck finding trains for this route.

Am I missing something?

Well, Zadar is the terminus of a branch line from Knin on the Split - Zagreb main line. There is no direct Split - Zadar route along the coast (as the buses probably run).

It seems that Zadar is not included in the database of the standard schedule planners, so you will have to look directly on the HZ website.

Two daily connections:

Split 0850 - 1017 Knin
Knin 1055 - 1320 Zadar

Split 1434 - 1559 Knin
Knin 1715 - 1935 Zadar

Both Split - Knin trains are ICN which means compulsory reservation! In case you want to avoid this reservation or the train is full you could go with regional trains instead with a connection as follows:

Split 0729 - 0830 Perkovic
Perkovic 0837 - 0951 Knin

Nice one Flow, you are right on the ball today!!

I think I will try that second train, with the reservation. Do you have any idea as to how much the reservation might be?
