Flying into Frankfurt and staying in Munich (FRANKFRT FLUG F --> MUNICH HBF). I want to take the high speed train. I have been researching the internet and find too many answers. Which one is right? Do I need to make reservations BEFORE I get to Germany for this or take my chances? I understand one-way reservation is EUR-6. I am finding the train reservations to be more complicated than the air fare and hotel. :?:
Thank you,

Hi Debby!
When travelling within Germany, you do not need to make reservations at any time!
All ICE, IC, EC etc... services do not have compulsory reservation! :) However, you can make reservations if you want to. Check here for different train categories and with and without reservation in the different countries. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-train-reservation
:!: If you use BWE, ICE Alleo and TGV Alleo within Germany, you do not need reservations!
There are two minor exceptions, but the will certainly not be a problem:
- Thalys trains (from Cologne to Paris via Bruxelles) require a reservation when using them between Cologne and Aachen and reservation with supplement on international routes.
- ICE Sprinter services require a reservation with supplement; however these are only a few trains each day aimed at business travellers so you'll find enough alternatives.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask. And if you want to support our work here, buy your tickets (and reservations, if neccessary) at our railcc shop! :)

Hi Debby.
It is like Flow said and like I wrote in the email I sent you yesterday. No need to reserve for Frankfurt to Munich. :)
Difference between rail travel bookings, flights and hotels:
- using a plane: you only fly from A to B with ONE company - maybe you have a change - but then you have the maximum of TWO companies - that's it.
- booking a hostel: it is only ONE hostel at one place with a date from X to Y.
- travelling long-distances by train: you can reach nearly every village or city within Europe. You are extremely flexible, but sometimes you have to use different companies in different countries, you are crossing borders, ...
It might look difficult to understand first - but it is easy. You have always help desks at stations where you can ask - or simply use our railcc forum . :)
Concerning the different information you got from the internet: you can trust this information we give you here. We are real experts travelling ourselves by train a lot. Not simply an anonymous company with some unmotivated staff trying to make money. We are obsessed by rail travel and online since more than 15 years. ;)
Peter :)
