(The subject is not enough) Eurorail Prague-Vienna-Munich-Rome-Florence-Zurich-Amsterdam-Brugges-Barcelona-Madrid

First, hi everybody, I'm a mexican guy and I going to travel to these cities on Jan-Sep 2014 with my wife. I'll try to make this travel on 29 days, and I'm checking the possibility to buy the Global Pass to use trains but I have some questions regarding to the final price.

I tried to check prices from point-to-point tickets from xxxx (dont use this company, buy them here!) page, and also I checked the price from reservations or extra fees (like night trains) using Global Pass. The costs that I calculated are the next:

Point-to-point tickets (all of them 2 persons): 2460 dlls.

versus

Global pass (2 persons - 10 days flexi): 1700 dlls.
Reservations and extra fees: 920 dlls
TOTAL = 2620 dlls

I'll save like 200 dlls, if I don't buy the Global Pass. Is this normal? Why should I buy the Eurorail? A quick sample: I read that you must pay 110 EUR per person for Elipsos night train, is this true?

yes, it is. but there is also lot of other possibilities whom permit you do not go by elipsos train. look for more information on this website.

moreover, with so much advance, you can buy tickets using spar-prices(generaly it's possible to buy the cheapest tickets 3 months before the travel) but you have to buy it almost separately, on websites of each rail company.
moreover ER pass permits you use regional train for free which is good when you want to know not only big cities (tickets for regional trains are, in my opinion, quite expensive and often don't have any special price).

OK, so my idea to buy the tickets (with time) is not bad idea? What about to take some cheaps airlines like easyJet in some trips, like Paris - Barcelona?

Other question, I read that on December 10 the timetables and fares will change, and right now I can't buy or even check the timetables. How is possible buy tickets using spar-times?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help, this travel will be our honey moon, and I really want to keep a good budget to enjoy the money on more things and not on trains tickets.

Hi.
It is always interesting to do such calculations. :)

If you use a low cost airline, keep in mind, that you have to pay extra for heavy luggage (sometimes only 10kg are free), that the airports of them are outside of the big cities. The called Barcelona airport is 100km away of Barcelona in Girona. You have to pay extra for bus transportation.

Especially the route Paris - Barcelona is also possible by much cheaper trains (also night trains) than the Elipsos (which isn't worth the money!).
Cross the Pyrenees in winter - magic! :)
Think about the Petit Train Jaune.
More information: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Like Hetman said, if you know your exact travel dates, you can try to buy as well special prices of the national railway companies. But if you miss the train, the ticket is lost.

More connections to save money: https://rail.cc/en/search-eurail-route

By the way, I removed the company name you mentioned in your first post - as the railccs are not the support of them, also don't like them for their high prices.

More information about Eurail: https://rail.cc/en/eurail

Concerning the purchase of special price tickets: you usually have to wait until the change of the schedules took place in the beginning of December

First, sorry about the link, I understand now. And thanks for the help, let me check all the links you list.

If I buy the tickets here, will I receive the tickets in my home? Should I wait for the third December's week to buy?

OK, another question, hehehe, sorry about this. I'm getting a good trip plan with a Global Flexi Plass 10 days, but I got a question, for example:

A route is Munich to Rome, I want to take the City Night, but could I take a train roundtrip to Erding the same day, and just use one day of the flexi pass?

Same situation on Bruges, If I move from Bruges to Brussels and the same day I take a train to Paris at 5PM, is it valid?

Finally a question about the Global Pass, how much time it takes to be delivered at Mexico?

Hi,
i just read your travel route and i'd like to give you some suggestions: i'd replace zurich (from what i was told zurich isn't really a beutiful city...) with Bern (much more cozy, picturesque and romantic) and a scenic train through the alps (like bernina express in regional trains), and if this is your honey moon i'd replace munich with venice (one of the most romantic cities in all europe).

just another thing: if your using night trains don't go seated, i is not worthed... it is completely uncomfortable (seriously, you wont sleep...) and the price difference isn't that much.

Hope you enjoy your trip,

Yes, I was checking remove Zurich (from all the Cities, it's the more expensive in hotels, so I guess in food too), but I was not sure at all where to go. I'll take a look in Bern, thanks for the suggestion.

Regarding Munich, I'll keep it, hehehe, it's my little escape to a brewery at Erding. She agreed xD

Switzerland is extremely expensive... I just stayed there last week for two days - and only went to the supermarket to get some cheap food. The cheapest Pizza Margarita (only tomatoes, nothing else on it) was CHF 15 (~ EUR 12,50), a Heineken beer (can - 0.5l) in the supermarket was CHF 2 (~ EUR 1,70) and the Cheeseburger at McDonalds was CHF 2,50 (~ EUR 2).
Even for a German, Switzerland is expensive. But also nice to visit for its beautiful nature and mountains.
I recommend to book hostels with a kitchen. So you can buy some tomatoes, noddles and have there a cheap meal. :)

To your questions:

1) Rome - Munich - Erding: it is only ONE travel day using the night train.
https://rail.cc/en/night-train/rome-munich-cnl-484/34

As for this rule: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train

2) Bruges - Brussels - Paris: also only ONE travel day. Have a look at the white box named Important to know. There ONE travel day is explained. :)
https://rail.cc/en/eurail-global-pass

3) Delivery is by International Priority mail - and it takes up to 7 business days. You will always find the details about the shipping at the end of your order, BEFORE your make the final payment! The binding information is then the one at the shop - but as much as I know, there won't be changes, so calculate with 7 business days - if you have the time, order a bit earlier. :)

Peter :)

Hi again,
if your going to bern, i can recommend you the Bern Glock Backpackers Hostel, its in the center of the old city, it's very good, as kitchen and is not very expensive for switzerland.

Thanks to all for the recommendation, just one question at Bern could I take a tour to Mount Titlis? Or do you have another recommendation to visit?

I'm checking the 7PM rule, and I think I could not used in the case one because:

1) Rome - Munich - Erding: it is only ONE travel day using the night train.
https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train/rome-munich-cnl-484/34
This route is vice versa, it's Munich to Rome, so I can't travel to Erding and after take the night train in the same day. I'll need to buy a point-to-point ticket because I won't have enough days :| I don't think the price of this ticket could justify the difference between 10 to 15 days on Flexi pass.

Hi agian,
I've never been to Mount Titlis so i can't really say, but you should really take a scenic train in the alps. You can also make a day trip to another swiss city like lucern, thun (apart from the city you can also visit lake thun, one of the most beautiful) or basel.
