Yes you can do it in Heidelberg main station. :)
What do you do in Heidelberg? Will you stay overnight. As I often spent my weekends there. :)
If you stay there, I recommend you the Hostel Lotte - The Backpackers. Very nice and friendly.
For some beers at night: https://rail.cc/en/heidelberg/cave/l40

Awesome. That bar sounds right up my street.

I wanted to visit Heidelberg as it is on my route and sounded a much more interesting place to stop off than, say, Stuttgart. It looks very picturesque from the photos I've seen and being a big university town I figured it would have some nice places to get a beer!

I've already arranged to stay in a hostel:

Steffi´s Hostel Heidelberg
Alte Eppelheimer Str. 50

Do you know anything of this one?

And this Bar CAVE, will it be open on Monday night?

Monday night is a bit dead there ... but maybe some bars have special Monday-offers.

There is the Untere Straße where you will find a lot of bars: http://maps.google.de/maps?q=Untere+Stra%C3%9Fe,+Heidelberg&hl=de&ie=UTF8&ll=49.412006,8.708623&spn=0.002558,0.005488&sll=49.408195,8.688437&sspn=0.005117,0.010976&vpsrc=6&dirflg=w&t=h&z=18

Close to your hostel is the river Neckar. If you just want to relax, go there and sit down with some beer:

The Steffis hostel ... mmmh... it is okay. Clean. But no real style. Advantage: a supermarket on the ground floor of the hostel and close to the main station. Just 3 minutes. Leave the main station at the main exit. Cross the tram, enter the shopping mall, cross it straight on, cross a small street and you are on a bigger parking area. There you are. :)

If it's clean and easy to get to then that's all I really want to be honest!

Supermarket and river both sound good to me too.

Cheers for the info
