I've seen many posts from people asking what they can see in Slovenia so I thought I'd make a short list of biggest attractions:

Ljubljana – the capital: I would recommend climbing to the castle (or take the funicular) for the view of the city. A walk along the Ljubljanica River will bring you through the old town, to nice squares like Prešernov trg and Mestni trg. Two of the nicest bridges are Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) and Zmajski most (Dragon Bridge). Tivoli park is a nice place to take a walk in the nature.

Lakes: Most popular is Lake Bled, with a small island and church which can be visited by typical wooden boats – Pletna (a trip would cost cca. 12eur per person). When visiting you absolutely must try the local cake Kremšnita. There is also a castle and Vintgar gorges nearby, so Bled is full of tourists all year round. If you prefer a less crowded place, you should visit Lake Bohinj, which is a bit further away but in my opinion even nicer. In summer it is possible to swim in both of them though they are very cold! Both lakes are also easily accessible by train: Bled – staion Bled jezero and Bohinj – station Bohinjska Bistrica.

Caves: Again, two possibilities - more famous Postojnska jama (www.postojnska-jama.si/eng// ), with a small train if you don’t like to walk, and Škocjanske jame (www.park-skocjanske-jame.si/eng/ ). Both are really nice and worth a visit.

Coastal region: The most beautiful city on the coast is Piran. You can combine the visit with an afternoon off at the beach. Alternatively, you can stop at Lipica stud farm to see the performance of famous Lipica horses ( www.lipica.org/en/stud-farm).

Upper Soča Valley: Towns Tolmin, Kobarid and Bovec are known for the wide range of adrenaline sports options (rafting, kayak, canyoning, paragliding, mountain biking, climbing, skiing…). There are also many paths for longer or shorter walks, all of them offering beautiful nature sights. In Kobarid there is one of the best World War 1 museums in Europe (www.kobariski-muzej.si/?lng=ang ).

Ptuj: This nice town offers an old castle and wine cellar. It is most lively in the days of Carnival, when the streets are full of traditional masks.

Kranjska gora: As a beautiful town surrounded by mountains, Kranjska gora offers a perfect starting point for climbing the Alps.

Spas: There are many spas especially in the eastern part of the country. Some of the biggest are Terme Čatež and Moravske toplice.

There is much more to do in Slovenia: www.slovenia.info/?_ctg_slo_sights=23&lng=2

I hope you find the above information helpful :)
Enjoy your stay in Slovenia!

If you want (and have the time), you can add as well the information directly to the railcc website. :)

Add cities/villages, add content (Lakes, caves, castles) after login.
