I can think of a few...admittedly I can't remember the names of them, but still...

I stayed in the west end of Glasgow for a few days in 2008 near Charing Cross station (yes, there IS a Charing Cross in Glasgow too, not just London!) and even though I was the only person in the room, oh my god it was awful. The floors were filthy, it was a miserable room, showers were constantly flooded and cold...very unpleasant.

I stayed opposite Blaha Lusza Ter (or something...it's on the red line from Budapest Deli (or was it Keleti?) station) in Budapest, and it was extremely hard to find, despite being literally in front of you, and simply UNBEARABLE in the 38 degree heat, even windows open. Urgh, die much?!

Similar problems with heat in places in Bratislava and Warsaw (and the Warsaw one was quite hard to find as well, especially at 1am with no map...), plus the Warsaw hostel was practically empty with no security and the Bratislava one was full of British booze cruisers (my worst nightmare)

It wasn't particularly horrible, but very out of the way, where I stayed in Vilnius. Plus, I was able to check in and go to my room when I arrived at 7am...that says a lot...(beats the original one I accidentally booked 16km from the old town!)

I stayed in a VERY good location in Amsterdam, and for not bad a price for a Saturday night stay too, but...good god. My room was next to where everyone socialises, and loud music blasting away...not to mention full of drunk/stoned guys. And not able to stow 1 suitcase behind reception? PLEASE.

The place in Rome I was at was simply one of the most disorganised operations I've ever seen. They advertise it as about half a mile from Termini in a straight line, you get there off your night train with your heavy luggage (mine was light...but imagine if it was heavy) up 3 floors of stairs...to be told your room is actually a 10 minute walk in the opposite direction...and having to go past Termini station to get there. Less than impressed. At least that building had a lift. And it was a bit grotty too. As well as some of the most idiotic, annoying and inconsiderate people I've ever stayed with (even moreso than British booze cruisers!)

Over to you lot!

Sant Jordi Alberg in Barcelona - however meanwhile it seems that they have refurbished the whole hostel. Well, in 2008 it was rather unattractive to stay there.

Otherwise I have been very lucky with hostels so far. :)

I can't say anywhere has been HUGELY horrific, maybe except the one in Glasgow, but it goes to show that hostels can be very pot luck!

Sounds a bit like a gay hostel I've read about in Paris :S
