I plan to go inter railing next may with my girlfriend, the plan was:

London, fly to
>Norway (Oslo, or Bergen)
> A day/two day trip to see a fjord preferably Flam Or Geiranger
> returning to Oslo for a day
> Night train to Gothenburg, spending two days here (we aim to start using the Interrail pass here)
> Then travelling to Berlin (the length of this journey can apparently reach well over a day, so i was considering a day stop over in Helsinki en route, although this isn't vital) spending two to three days in Berlin.
> Night train to Prague, spending three days here
> Travel to Slovenia, to see Lake Bled (nothing else I can find of particular interest in Slovenia, so probably for a half day/full day)
> Night train in to Venice, spending up to two days here.
>Travel to Switzerland, in particular Grindlewald for two days before moving on to
> Marseille for two/three nights to visit family.
> Then training it to Barcelona along the cost spending a good two/three days here then finishing off in
>Madrid (inter rail pass finishing here) spending two/three days here and then flying back to the UK.

I spoke to friends who went this year and said that our route was too far and we wouldn't have time to do it, what do you think?

Also, any particular help on Norway, we're struggling to find the easiest way to reach the fjords, the main train line isn't included in our inter rail pass so no point in starting it here and the cost of the ordinary train is around £500, whilst hiring a car isn't far different.
Public transport looks awfully confusing. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
:)

Hi!

First we have to clear some questions.

- I assume you a a UK citizen?
- If yes, why not using InterRail within Norway?
- How long do you want to travel/which kind of InterRail pass do you intend to buy? :arr: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] And remember that you directly support our work here at railcc if you purchase your InterRail tickets through our partner :arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route thank you :)

OK, still enough time until next May to plan your trip.

- Geiranger has no rail connections, but you can go to Flam with the famous Flam railway from Myrdal (on the Bergen - Oslo line). When travelling with the Flam railway you get a 30% discount with InterRail.

- Oslo - Göteborg: there is no night train but several direct day trains

- Göteborg - Berlin: Going to Helsinki would be a massive detour (Göteborg - Stockholm by train ~3h, Stockholm - Helsinki by ferry ~16h), there is a nice overnight connection to Berlin :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/oslo-to-berlin

- Berlin - Praha: No night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/berlin-to-prague

- Praha - Slovenia: Best via Wien (maybe a short stop there?)

- Ljubljana (Slovenia) to Venezia :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/ljubljana-to-venice or night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/hungary/hu

- Grindelwald and all other villages in the Jungfrau area are not included in InterRail - regular tickets are rather expensive :arr: https://rail.cc/en/jungfraujoch/f1841
Maybe think of going to Graubünden with its fabulous RhB network instead (fully included in InterRail), for example the Berninbahn :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/st-moritz-to-tirano

- Switzerland to Marseille is best via Lyon; first go with free TER train then with 6€ reservation TGV.

- Marseille - Barcelona: https://rail.cc/en/train/nice-to-barcelona

Hey! I am also planning a trip with my best friend next July/August, and we're also considering to include Norway! (Actually, we haven't yet thought of any country else). I've searched and searched, and the best itinerary within Norway I could find was this:

- get to Copenhagen by train (it shouldn't be too hard) and then catch the ferry to Oslo. the trip is around 16h, so we'll try to do it during the end of the afternoon/night.

- From Oslo (after spending a day or two - depending on the interest), get the Bergen Railway (included on your Interrail Global Pass) to the town of Myrdal.

- From Myrdal, catch the Flamsbana, on the Flam Railway (not included on the interrail pass, www.flaamsbana.no/eng/ ) to the town of Flam.

- On Flam, get a cruise tour (there are several options, from 3h30 to 1h30) on the World heritage Nærøyfjord ( www.flamguide.no/index.cfm?id=212754 ).

- Again from Flam to Myrdal on the Flamsbana (this bit may be different, I haven't searched for alternatives, other than coming back to Myrdal, but there should be some) and then to Bergen, again on the Bergen Railway, included on your pass.

This itinerary has not been tested yet :P but from what I could search it is a good option. All in all, we would spend about 170€ with all this (excluding the included Bergen Railway). It can bee a bit too much, but it depends on your own top rated destinations.

You can always choose a standard Norway in a Nutshell Fjord trip - it may be the optimized itinerary, but it may get a little over the budget.

If you think of a better route, please share!
