I want to go on 21.5.2025 from Ljubljana to Hamburg and I found this:

Dep Wed, 21.05.2025 16:05 o'clock
Arr Wed, 21.05.2025 21:55 o'clock
Transfer time: 7 Min.
IC 460
Operator Österreichische Bundesbahnen
from Wien Meidling
To München Hbf Gl.5-10
Dep Wed, 21.05.2025 22:02 o'clock
Arr Thu, 22.05.2025 02:31 o'clock
Walk 10 Min.
ICE 888

from München Hbf
To Hamburg Hbf
Dep Thu, 22.05.2025 04:12 o'clock
Arr Thu, 22.05.2025 09:53 o'clock
I am concerned about we are in Wien Meidling at 21:55 o'clock. We have to change the train, which goes to München at 22:02 o'clock. This means, we have only 5 minutes to find this train. Please tell me from your experiences, if there is enough time to catch the train. We are older people....

No, that wont work ..... There are two reasons : 1st "theoretically" 7mins are enough, but only if you dont the take the elevator and dont have big luggage! Also the deboarding process is sometimes very long, depending on the utilization of the train. And the 2nd and much more important reason : 7mins are not a suitable buffer-time to kill delays! Especially because youre coming from Slovenia, which is not famous for its punctual trains ;). There just need to be a small issue and puff 15mins delay! Plan with at least 30-60mins per change-over. Also that is the last train that gets you to the ICE 888 in time, so there isnt any alternative!

Why leaving Ljubljana so late? My recommendation, with long change-overs and done on one day :
Ljubljana - Villach Hbf with IC 251 dep. 05:00 arr. 08:22
Change-over 1h 04mins
Villach Hbf - Wien Hbf with RJ 558 dep. 09:26 arr. 12:04
Change-over 1h 09mins
Wien Hbf - Hamburg Hbf with ICE 90 dep. 13:13 arr. 21:55

Look at bahn.de/en and scotty.oebb.at for on-time information and tickets. Booking in one part is not possible!

I agree it isn't reliable - or logical, it goes too far east and could cost a lot more. This terrible route via Wien has been offered because almost no Slovenian trains are in the international databases so they can't offer a direct train to Villach. for an overnight joruney the departure would normally be EC210 from Ljubljana deaprting at 15:27 arriving Villach 17:07. But here is a second problem, the Tauern tunnel will be closed for engineering work so no direct trains to Salzburg, the tunnel section will be replaced by a bus ride. So it will need 4 trains and the bus ride to reach München! I suggest you look for a long distance bus from Ljubljana to München to connect with a high speed train to Hamburg. Flixbus have a departure at 21:20 which arrives at München ZOB at 02:50, and then you can take ICE888 as planned. ZOB to Hbf is about 4 minutes by tram (or S-Bahn train) and the next tram is at 03:23

Thats why the massive detour via Wien would be needed . Btw. the Website for Flixbus is global.flixbus.com .

Argon and MisterSteve, thank you both, you are both very kind and helpful.
I would be realy the best, if I take first Flixbus from Ljubljana to München and than train to Hamburg. I have seen, that the Flix Bus Station and the Railway Station in München are close... But I think I need there 30 minutes minimum to find the right train ...
I have to be in Hamburg on 22.5.2025 at least at 15 PM, because we are going to Norwegian fjords cruise.
Thank you for your help. Nice regards, Romana
