I’m planning a trip that includes trips between Frankfurt and Zagreb and Zagreb and Prague using my Eurail pass. How do I reserve seating/overnight accommodations? I can find the routes, but cannot find how to do it using my rail pass. Is it even possible?

For the Frankfurt (Main) - Stuttgart (-Zagreb) section you look at bahn.com and select "Book seat only" . For the Section (Frankfurt (Main)-) Stuttgart - Zagreb you look at nightjet.com and select as discount card Interrail or Eurail .

(I think the route via Stuttgart is the smartest)

For the Zagreb - Praha section :
I would recommend going from Zagreb to Budapest and from there to Praha . Look for Interrail Reservations at jegy.mav.hu . And if its not working for the Budapest - Praha section , look at cd.cz . Note ! Dont try to enter the entire route at once , it wont work , because MÁV doesnt allow the start and end of the journey to be outside of Hungary , and ČD doesnt sell reservations for the Zagreb to Budapest stretch .

As for the conncetion :
Theres no recommended one , just look at websites above and plan enough time (1-2hrs) for change-overs , especially for the transit in Budapest (>3hrs) . Cherres argon :)

Delays are common in Eastern Europe , and international trains are mostly running only onces a day ! And because of small track-works on the old rails , on some days those few international trains are even cancelled .

Thank you! This is very helpful—just a clarification, once I have the reservations, all I need to do is show my Eurail pass to board the train? Is it better to print out the reservation, or is a pdf copy on my phone acceptable?

Linda

PS: Is the reason you recommend the Budapest route to Prague is there’s a high chance the Zagreb to Graz route might be delayed or cancelled?

Yes , you show your Eurailpass and the reservation (if needed) , in nighttrains your reservation will be collected so print them out , also if go to eastern Europe . But countrys like Croatia , Hungary , Slowenia , Slowakia , Poland and Czechia will also accept QR-Codes .

Actually , it depends : theres one daily train Zagreb - Budapest (IC 201) that leaves Zagreb 16:35 and arrives Budapest 22:24 , so you would have to sleep there , which means you could explore Budapest ann than take the train to Praha (every second hour) . But the Graz-route is shorter . I just forgot about :( .... there is also just one possible connection : Zagreb dep. 07:05 with D/EC 105 (the only daytrain to Austria) to Graz Hbf (arr. 11:22) dep. there with Railjet , either the 12:26 RJ 78 or the 14:26 RJ 370 . You would be in Praha at 19:13 or at 21:11 . I would recommend a long change-over time . But I dont really think 3h are needed ! But thats up to you ! The Railjet doesnt require a reservation , but it can get cramped so consider buying one . You can buy reservation for that connection at oebb.at . But split the order to Zagreb - Graz and Graz - Praha . And a small advice : In Austria , Switzerland , Germany , Czechia and Denmark you travel without reservations ! But always check beforehand , because some some trains may require one . Cherres argon :)

PS : If you didnt knowed , many private
Railway-companys dont accept Eurail , so be careful !
