I wonder how it is with this trip. We are going to Skopje in march 2025 and want to use the train but it is said that there is a problem with that. If so could we take a bus the same way?

Hej ,
Currently basically all train from the EU/Schengen Area to the rest of the balkan are suspended . Only some trains Romania -> Bulgaria are running . For example you could do Wien/Budapest - Bucuresti (which have frequent service) and then Bucuresti - Sofia (which has a train once a day) by CFR . But then theres no train to Skopje . On that part you really rely on buses such as Flixbus for example . Cherres argon :)

The situation within Serbia is difficult, even without having to get there from EU. They are doing massive amounts of track rebuilding (slowly) which is presumably aimed at future freight because they have ruined the passenger market. The line south of Niš is currently closed. The passenger train operator does attempt to provide line timetables as PDF (which many countries don't!) https://www.srbvoz.rs/en/timetable-kurir/ these should be updated in December. There is some more info in English https://w3.srbvoz.rs/redvoznje/info/en
