Hi,

This is our first draft of a plan. We have currently booked flights into Copenhagen for the 5th sept and have booked flights out of cologne for the 5th sept. We were looking at the 22 day continuous travel pass, I think this is the most sensible to go for.

-Copenhagen

-Berlin

-maybe pop into Dresden whilst were practically passing through it? Is it worth doing this?

-Prague
will we need an overnight train inbetween these two?
-Krakow

-Budapest

-Vienna (and perhaps a day trip to Bratislava - although weve heard this isnt great...any thoughts?)

-Ljubliana (here we wanted to go to lake bled more than the city itself...how do we go about this? and is the city even worth spending any time in? again, ive heard its not that great... As for the lake, are there places to stay there and things? How long does anyone think we should stay?)

-Pop into Zagreb to go to Plitvice Lakes. Again, have heard Zagreb itself is quite an industrial city and not really worth seeing...is this true?)

-For the flight home, get the train back to Zagreb - catch an overnight train to Munich, and then a train to Cologne. I know this seems silly, but we thought as we have paid for the rail services already we may as well get close enough to home to get a cheap flight home again!)

Is this too many places? How much time do we need in each place roughly? I am slightly worried we are aiming too high and trying to fit too much in....

I am also worried about the concept of not booking things in advance. We were thinking of booking our Copenhagen hostel in advance, but then booking Berlin from Copenhagen etc etc... is this a good plan? Are hostels likely to be busy through September?

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Button ...
As you are travelling in September, your concept is fine: booking Copenhagen and then to do it step by step for the next places you will stay - not to be fixed to much on dates and keep your freedom to have changes if you love one place. :)

Check the routes we prepared, there you will find free connections and als information about night trains, where to book them, prices and so on:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Examples:

Copenhagen-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/copenhagen-to-berlin

Berlin-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/berlin-to-prague
Trains are crossing Dresden. So have a stop there. Definitely worht. Maybe leaving Berlin in the morning, stay the day in Dresden and continue in the evening to Prague.

Prague-Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/prague-to-krakow

And so on.

If a connection is not listed, use the schedule planers: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Compare it to possible extra reservation fees: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

If you want to support our work, buy your official Interrail pass in our partner shop: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you. :)

And if you have some more questions, don\'t hesitate to ask.
Peter :)

Hi,

We've had another look at this and have come up with the following, any ideas / tips / advice would be really appreciated! (Especially with getting to Plitvice at the end of the trip..I'm really struggling with this!)

I also wanted to check if the EC trains are free? Were catching a few of them, and it might just be me being stupid but I cant find it anywhere. Were also looking at catching the D402 night train from Krakow - Budapest...does anyone know how much this is?

Another thing is the amount of time were spending at each place (I feel like we rush through some places a bit too much)...and whether were missing anything?

-> 5th: fly to Copenhagen. Arrive at 16:30.

-> 8th: Day train copenhagen 7:44 – berlin 14:27. free:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/copenhagen-to-berlin

-> 10th: berlin 08.48 – Dresden 10.42 EC train: check if this is free? If not, 2 ICE trains.

luggage storage Dresden train station: www.bahnhof.de/site/bahnhoefe/de/ost/dresden/service/gepaeck/gepaeck__.html

-> 10th: Dresden 19:08 – Prague 21:28 EC train again: is this free?

-> 12th: night train from Prague 21:17 – Krakow 06.56. 6 bed couchette – 9.40eur:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/zrychleny-vlak-zsr/148

-> 14th: night train from Krakow 21.57 – Budapest 08.35. train D402. Prices?

-> 17th: Budapest 07:10 – Vienna 10:08. Free:
https://rail.cc/en/budapest-vienna-munich-train-railje/f4070

-> 19th: Vienna 08:02 – Ljubljana 14:06. Free:
https://rail.cc/en/train/vienna-to-ljubljana

-> 21st: Ljubljana 09:12 – Lake Bled (about 45 min). Free:
https://rail.cc/en/lake-bled-ljubljana-train/f4005

-> 22nd: Lake Bled 09:22 – 12:20 Ljubljana. Free:
https://rail.cc/en/lake-bled-ljubljana-train/f4005

-> 22nd: Ljubljana 14:45 – 17:10 Zagreb. EC train..free?

Having trouble searching buses from Zagreb – Plitvice lakes.. site www.akz.hr/EN/voznired.aspx doesnt seem to be working… however plan is:

22nd: bus to plitvice.
24th: bus from plitvice to Zagreb.

-> 24th: Night train. Zagreb 21:15 – munich 06.15. 13.50eur.
https://rail.cc/en/zagreb-munich-train/f3999

-> 25th: Munich 10:50 – Koln-Bonn airport 15:14. ICE 720. Free.

-> 25th: fly home from koln-bonn: 19.15

Thanks again!

Hi.

D401 Krakow - Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/krakow-budapest-tlk402/407/4/124

EC trains depends where, in which country and so on: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Plitvice: https://rail.cc/en/plitvice-train-station/f5571
Concerning buses in Croatia, Slovenia and bordering countries: it is not like in Western Europe that you will find every connection in the internet. But you will always find connections there. :)

EC trains on route Berlin - Prague are ALL FREE. ICE trains as well. See link above.

EC Ljubljana - Zagreb: should be free. If not EUR 1.

Sounds like a nice trip ... have fun. :)

Thanks, your replies have ben so helpful! Another few questions I have thought of though...

-I have a problem with my shoulder, and am quite worried about taking a rucksack..would a suitcase on wheels be ok to take? I imagine it would be ok with the big cities, it is Lake Bled and Plitvice Lakes (https://rail.cc/en/plitvice-lakes/train/c) in the last week I am most worried about.

-Also, will getting into cities in early morning be a problem? I had always just thought we would drop our bags at the hostels and then go about the city as normal, however will there be late check in times at hostels meaning we will have our bags on us for a lot of the time?

Hi.

Nearly all hostels offer luggage rooms in which you can put your backpack or suitcase on your day of arrival or departure - otherwise you have it in your room of course. :)
Don't leave values in it, take it with you.

A suitcase is also fine - you won't do hiking with it and at Lake Bled there are also streets ... so no worries. :)

*bump* :)

Speaking of Plitvice Lakes... Anyone got hostel tips?

-About 30 euros per night or less would be nice.
-No more than a couple of kilometers from the/a park entrance would be nice (kind of hard to tell from maps... but if there are frequent buses running to the entrance, I guess it's not important).

If necessary, I suppose I'll hide out and sleep in the woods behind the parking lot or something... :B
Do they have any kind of luggage storage outside the park?

I do not know of a hostel in the Plitvice area, but you should be able to rent private rooms, ask at the info centre. Dont know about lockers at the site, guess they dont have these.
