Does anyone have experience with taking the train in Scotland? Is it useful to take the Caledonian sleeper or is it not worth the money?
From Londo to Glasgow eg

it may be worth the money if the alternative is a hotel in London AND you book the train a few months in advance. But the hourly daytime trains from London Euston only take 4½ hours (those that depart at 30 minutes past the hour, never use the ones via Birmingham) - these also have discounted fares if booked in advance.

Have done that once-on a Pass, years ago, and in the seats (thats ´free=no extra´ with pass), in the time that I was always seeking to save. Compaed with other such trips in other countries quite OK, nothing special. Agree with steve above. Sleepers tend to be grossly over-enthusiastic promoted by some types who also always have time enough to follow forums to convince others.Ugly Glsg is probably much less in deamdn by tourists as Edinb.
BTW:"IF booked advance, and a cheap-ish chain lke travelodge or even premier, a HTL in suburban LON need can be found for/from 40/50 GBP. DO not expect too much, but in general get a much better sleep and with own shower as in a narrow train sleeper

Glasgow isn't ugly - it's real! Edinburgh is fake and overrun with tourists who think this is Scotland.

Thanks guys!! Been to Edi many times, I do like it and yes, you need to stay away from the touristy stuff (like in any city)
