Hi,
so I've followed the all suggested links and have looked for reservations. I think we're going to make them in advance where possible or at least at the station (having understood thanks to the very simple questions above!!!) as we know where we're going when. But I have some specific questions about my trip:
Budapest - Vienna I understand a reservation is possible but not required.
Vienna to Salzburg (Wien Westbahnhof - Salzburg Hbf)- I cannot find! Searching the internet or using the links provided, would one be necessary? I have used the types of trains and it seems that they come under the reservation not needed ones, but some are not there? The same follows for all the below: Just read the above - not necessary for Austria :D btu does this include the above/below which go out of the country?
Salzburg - Venice (night train);
Venice - Verona (day trip so would be going early morning returning late evening); Again, just read above that Italy requires no reservations!
Venice - Lauterbrunnen (I already understand this leg from a previous post I made, but the point what made that Interlaken Ost - Lauterbrunnen is NOT included in Interrail - how would I go about this? Buy from Interlaken Station, but there isn't time in this connection given? And what if we were to get the train from Venice rather than Verona? https://rail.cc/en/interrail/verona-to-lauterbrunnen
Lauterbrunnen - Vevey;
Vevey - Geneva airport (looks as thought it doesn't need a reservation?)
Sorry to be so specific with them but I'm having trouble locating. My other question is, in your experience, do they have people who speak English at main stations? My French is basic, my Italian is guesswork and as for what I'll do in Budapest and Austria I don't know, but was wondering if you knew if finding an English-speaker working at the above stations is likely?!
Thank you very much for your help in advance,
Sarah

Hi Sarah!
Budapest - Wien is best by the two hourly direct Railjet trains - no reservation needed! :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-type/railjet-oebb/54
Wien - Salzburg: Frequent direct and fast connections by IC, EC, RJ,...within Austria you never need reservations! :)
Salzburg - Venezia: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/vienna-venice-en-237/96
Venezia - Verona: Within Italy most long distance trains do require a reservation! :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train-type/italy/it
This trip can be done with frequent and fast (~1h) ES City with 10€ reservation or slower (~2h30) regional trains; maybe think over your plan of going to Verona as a day trip - instead you could save some money and time when not returning to Venezia. If you arrive in the morning in Venezia you could leave your luggage at the station and then spend the whole day in the city - in the evening leave for Verona. Just a suggestion. ;)
Verona - Lauterbrunnen: There are trains every 30 minutes almost throughout the day - if you miss the 1505, the next one is at 1535. Enough time to get the tickets. :)
Lauterbrunnen - Vevey: Use a schedule planner :arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route to get detailed timings. There are several possible routes:
- Fast: Lauterbrunnen - Interlaken - Spiez - Visp - Vevey or via Interlaken - Bern - Lausanne; I'd recommend the first one as it is a little bit more scenic (running through the Rhone valley and along the Lac Léman between Visp and Vevey)
- Scenic: Lauterbrunnen - Interlaken - Spiez - Goppenstein - Brig - Vevy; this is basically the same as the first route but instead of using the Lötschberg base tunnel you go over the mountain via the old railway :)
or Spiez - Zweisimmen - Montreux - Vevey which is also very scenic, running via parts of the Golden Pass line :)
All these trips do not require a reservation; as does the trip to Geneve Aeroport neither. :)
It is no problem to communicate with staff in english.

Thank you SO much for the information, very very helpful indeed!!! Quick question:

Is there somewhere safe and secure to leave luggage then? Because if so this would be super handy! We've booked places to stay now but could always change our minds hehe because that does sound like a good idea :)
Thank yooooou, :D

Well, there is a luggage storage directly in the station (Venezia Santa Lucia), close to platform 1. Rates are 4€ for the first 5 hours, then 60 cent for every following hour. :)

I've just tried to go through the booking process to buy a reservation for this journey, via the railcc website. However, I put in the details (Salzburg hbf - Venezia Santa Lucia) and the date and time, which I put as an early morning departure of 01:00, as it appears on the link above.
However, it takes me to the page that says Your journey requires multiple connections. Try booking shorter segments individually - but as its a sleeper I thought it was just one train?!
Can anyone help?!

Hi.
Which date exactly ? :)
The Error message you got will be replaced tomorrow by this one: Prices are temporarily not available for this route.
To avoid these misunderstandings.
Sometimes not every route is available if the railcc shop don't get access to national railway servers. :o

Oh okay, um for the early morning of the 4th of September.
Is it necessary to book this or should just wait and book at the station - or would we risk not getting a couchette?
