Hey there people!

I am currently at budapest, going to wien tomorrow. Since wien is a big town, hard to move around just by walking, i would like to know if, like in germany, interrail ticket is valid on s-bahn underground?

I found somewhere that only eurail cardholders can travel on s-bahn. I found that rather strange.

Thank you very much

Alexander

InterRail is valid as well; but the network does not serve the city centre really well. The closest station to the centre is Wien Mitte/Landstraße which you are reaching best by leaving the Railjet Budapest - Wien at Wien Meidling. If you are staying on the Railjet until Wien Westbahnhof you can walk down Mariahilferstraße on foot to reach the city centre.
Of course that all depends on where you are staying. ;)

Thank you for your anwser!

Now i can see that s-bahn does not reach the centre very well, just u-bahn does that !:/

I'll stay on a hostel near Wien Westbahnhof, so the easier way to reach the centre is by walking, as you said.

Thank you!

Yup; are you in Wombats? It is very nice. :)

Just walk down Mariahilferstraße (main shopping street) and you'll be directly in the city centre (Museumsquartier, Ringstraße,...). However, if you want to see more of the Old Vienna straightaway, I'd rather take the way Kaiserstraße - Westbahnstraße - Siebensternstraße down to the Grätzl of Spittelberg. Just follow the tramway lines 5 (in Kaiserstraße) and 49 (in Westbahnstraße and Siebensternstraße) and you'll get there. Spittelberg is very close to the centre as well, just follow the 49 and you'll get to the Ringstraße. :)
