Hello - My wife and I are looking to travel from Lisboa to Nice, stopping in Hendaye to connect. We will be traveling with our 30lbs dog. Has anyone ever traveled with a dog on a train before? Which ticket / class is best for sleeping and having an animal with us? We're originally from the US so not extremely familiar with the train systems, especially when having a dog with us. Thank you so much for the help!

Never mind the dog, how do you get from Lisboa to Hendaye? The only direct train stopped running 4 years ago (although it's still mentioned on dozens of web pages that have not been updated). And even when it ran, Hendaye was/is a terrible point to try to reach Nice from.

The French border point that is less terrible is Cerbère on the other coast but even that is a difficult journey from Lisboa. The only option is a complicated route via Badajoz and Madrid (probably a hotel stay) . It's faster and more frequent from Lisboa to Madrid by bus.

And it's not a lot of use telling people in Europe that the dog weighs 30lbs - you need to use kilogrammes, which makes it around 68kg. This journey would be a hard slog for just you and your wife, the dog probably makes it impossible.

PS: why is this in the Eastern Europe and the Caucasus forum?
