Me and my friend from Manchester (UK) are planning to go interailing from the 30th August to the 21st September. We have two options to get to and from Manchester .

1. Flight from Manchester to Amsterdam then at the end of the trip coming back to Amsterdam to get the return flight. If we take out insurance on the flights the cost is approx. £75 per person.

2. Coach from Manchester to London, Eurostar to Calais. Then for the return leg coming back to Calais via Amsterdam. (I have worked out this costs approx. £103 per person excluding london underground and taxis etc).

I was looking if anybody had a similar choice to make as both seem viable choices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi!

First, no need to double post, we always check all new entries. ;)

Well, both options are viable of course, but, why not start your trip by train?

29th August

Manchester Picadilly 1255 - 1423 London Euston
transfer to London St Pancras
London St Pancras 1512 - 1620 Dover Priory

:arr: tickets from 31,50 GBP

Dover 1930 - 2200 Calais

:arr: tickets from 29,50 GBP

Total of 61 GBP

In Calais I have slept several times at the ferry terminal without problems, only got kicked out once (out of 4 or 5 times) :P
Alternatively you could also travel to Calais earlier at similar conditions and then get a regular SNCF ticket to Lille where you could spend the first night and then start your InterRail ticket from there.

Another more adventurous could be the Harwich - Hook van Holland ferry :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/

Hi Flo

Cheers for the info it's good people are helping with this sorta thing! Also I didn't mean to double post I just put this in the wrong category at first. . .

Those train prices, how did you find dover to calais for just 29.50GBP? I was looking at Eurostar and it was at least 66GBP! Also, we were planning to go from Calais (however we got there) to Paris. Are the trains from Calais to Paris valid on the interail pass?

Thanks

Hi David!

- Have a look at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ for timings and fares within the UK
- The 29,50 GBP for Dover - Calais is for a P&O ferry, sorry forgot to mention that.
- Calais - Paris info in the other thread. ;)

Hi Flo

Looked on the p&o website but the cheapest price I can find for 2 adults is 118GBP return! So 58GBP each. Where did you find this cheap price from?

Thanks

David

Haha no problem! But yeah helps a lot and the train straight to Dover is something I will take up, less hassle than getting coaches tube trains etc. . .

Thanks again

David
