Hello, I am planning a trip to France and Switzerland. I bought my plane ticket. I will be in Lyon on October 16th. I will go to Switzerland on October 18th. My return flight is from Zurich on October 26. What should I see? What kind of travel plan would you recommend? What is the weather usually like on those dates? What do you recommend I take with me? Thank you very much in advance for your valuable time.

One of many (scenic) possibilities is from Geneve over Lausanne-Montreux-Martigny-Brig-Disentis/Muster-Chur to Zürich (my favorite part Disentis-Chur alongside a very little Rhine floating between huge rocks). Possible whit one ticket, a Swiss Travel Pass (https://swisstravelpass.com). Timetables electronic at www.sbb.ch or in PDF www.fahrplanfelder.ch. Beware in october there is less than 12 hours daylight a day.

Hi.
A classic "tourist route" is the one I described here in my blog post with a lot of photos and details:

You can add overnight stops along the way.
There is no need to take the "famous" Glacier Express. In fact, I recommend using local trains to add stops - and not to rush through.
In Switzerland, a rail pass is often the best option - you are flexible, just hop on the next train, no need to buy individual (expensive) tickets each time. As Arend7 said. Or follow this link:

My favorite part is from Chur to Tirano. :)
I also made a film about this route on Youtube:

Have a good trip, Peter :)
