does hat really has to be that village?
F.e. Chamonix (tramway du MontBlanc): take IT train to Milano/C (ev hour, IC or IR), then the train via Domodossola to Swiss, via Brig/change to Martigny and then change to the private Swiss train to border=Vallorcine (pay half fare-about 8/9€ I guess) and change at border to FR train=SNCF< free to Chamnoix. As has been told many timers; check all times via [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] -or also via sbb.ch-to get in style this time. Break it up in segments-but on bahn you can use the ''via'' button. Total estim. time: 3+3+3 hrs, plus some time for change in between.
I just checked out of curiosity: tomorrow, dep. 8,51 from Santa Lucia +end. main stop in VNZ) with 1 hr in Milano, arr. time 17.00 @Cham.x, Just 3 mins in Martigny-buy that extra ticket before with a longer stay-can do at ANY Swiss bahnhof. IC trains in IT are said to be free on Irail-but I have some doubt on this (cost for res is just 3€

Venezia - Milano: There are no IR or IC on this route; fast trains are all ES City which require a compulsory 10€ reservation; slower trains are R or RV trains without reservation.

Hay,

Thanks for the info! Could the first poster please clarify the changes on the route? I didn't quite understand!

Thanks!

I'll help out. ;)

First, let's clearify the thing about reservations.

- On the route Venezia - Milano there are only fast ES City :arr: https://rail.cc/en-type-country/eurostar-city/trenitalia-es-city/48 with a compulsory reservation of 10€.
- On the route Milano - Switzerland (Sion) there are direct fast EC trains with a reservation of 10€ as well.

So, if you want to take the fastest option you'll have to buy two 10€ reservations > 20€ plus the discounted ticket for Martigny - Chatelard which is 7,40€.

I just checked the scheudules and unfortunately there is no other option as to use these fast trains on both legs of the journey - so you'll need the 2x10€ reservation if you want to go Venezia - Megeve within one day.

The connection would be as follows:

Venezia SL 0858 - 1125 Milano Cle
Milano Cle 1225 - 1449 Sion
Sion 1506 - 1519 Martigny
Martigny 1522 - 1612 Vallorcine
Vallorcine 1627 - 1747 St Gervais-les-Bain
St Gervais-les-Bains 1801 - 1806 Sallanches Combloux Megeve

Get your ticket for Martigny - Chatelard at Sion station - ask for the 50% InterRail discount. Chatelard is a stop on the Martigny - Vallorcine route which is operated by TMR until Chatelard, from there SNCF is responsible. You do not have to change trains though. ;)

EDIT: You could go with a regional train to Milano but you'd have to get up really early: Venezia SL dep 0515 - Milano Cle arr 0845... :|

You are an absolute life saver!!

One slight thing, there is one connection which only has 3 minutes between trains :| Do you know if there are regular trains after this one if we miss it? thanks very much!!!

No problem. ;)

The problem is, if you miss that connection you only can get as far as St Gervais (dep Martigny 1722) but do not have connection to Megeve there anymore.

Anyway, do you want to Megeve directly? The station of Sallanches Combloux Megeve is some ~13km away from Megeve itself (about the same distance as from St Gervais).
