How do you book a train ticket from Athens to Thessaloniki? It’s proving impossible to do it on the web! Thanks, Willy

Only via the Hellenic Train website which states in English that no other website has been given rights ot sell ticekts. Unfortunately use to english doesn't extend to the station selection list so unless you speak greek you won't get much further! Make sure that any schedule that you look at is a traina s a lot of the network is beong covered by buses because it's all falling apart.

Anyway. for the record it's https://tickets.hellenictrain.gr/dromologia/?lang=gr

Best of luck!

....by the way, if you get to Thessaloniki there have been no trains to Bulgaria or Turkey for over 3 years - that will be a ride with a private bus operator

Thank you for that. We’ll go to the station (I presume the main Athens station???) at the weekend to buy our tickets for Monday travel. Thanks again, Willy

And no, we’re not going to Bulgaria - but flying home to Ireland on Wednesday…

Hi!

Keep in mind that there are no through trains at the moment due to the recent floods. Probably bus replacement on part of the journey - best bet to go to the station and ask there for latest info.

Un less you are married with trains-take a BUS all the way for more comfort and quicker journey and better price even too!
