Holla!

A friend and I are looking to travel from either Valencia or Barcelona to Lucca in Italy and have 3 days in which to do it (2 nights). We have a continuous interrail ticket and want to travel as cheap as possible, we do not mind slow or indirect trains! Can anyone please help us out!? We are setting off on Wednesday (27) so need quick responses!

Thanks in advance!

Richard.

it's difficult to travel form Spain to Italy without paying. and even if you use regional free trains finally you have to sleep in somewhere because there is not free night trains and moreover this region is not good prepared for IR ;)

i have 2 options:
1)Barcelona - Nice for free with regional trains; stay there by night and in the morning other free trains to Pisa and then to Lucca

dep: 9:16 BARCELONA Sants
arr: 12:00 Cerbere dep: 12:26
arr: 13:02 Perpignan dep: 13:25
arr: 15:14 Montpellier dep: 15:32
arr: 17:34 Marseille dep: 17:59
arr: 20:32 NICE Ville
----next day....
dep: 10:23 NICE Ville
arr: 11:12 Ventimigilia dep: 11:50
arr: 17:04 La Spezia Cent. dep: 17:41
arr: 18:51 PISA Centrale dep: 18:50
arr: 19:17 Lucca

2) Barcelona - Toulouse for free with regional trains, then night train to Nice (reservation from 6 euros for seat, couchette 17,5, euros and in the morning, like above, free trains to Pisa and then to Lucca

Barcelona Sants 13:16
16:00 Cerbère 16:46
17:25 Perpignan 17:30
18:20 Narbonne 18:46
20:14 Toulouse-Matabiau 00:32 <-- for this train you need reservation mentioned above
08:08 Nice Ville

Hetman, We owe you a great debt!!

This is all fantastic information so thanks for taking the time out to help us! We have two short questions for you if you don´t mind?

Firstly, are these times the same each day? We are booked in Lucca Friday night so might travel thursday to get there friday evening.

Secondly, and this is a bit of a biggie so feel free to ignore it! Do you know where each train in the second option terminates?! We have had alot of trouble trying to explain where we want to go at stations as our spanish isn´t too good!

Thanks so much!
Richard.

probably no so, please, check it putting exact date in some route schedules.
and if really it's not possible to take this route and you can not find similar trains then I'll help you one more time

only inconvenience what you may have is access to the train at Barcelona Sants because with IR pass you can not pass by gate so you have enter by exit. just ask in information point how to get to platform.

well, it's every thing like in first option: Barcelona dep at 13:16, arr to Cerbere at 16:00 and then next train(to Perpignan) at 16:46

both route have common point in Nice where you can take the same trains to go to Lucca
