I am having a hard time finding a train from Zagreb to Kranj on Oct. 2. Not sure if we have to go to Ljubljana first, then switch trains to Kranj. What website will I go to in order to see the schedules for Oct. 2.

The problem is that Croatia is very poor at providing information - and that there are hardly any trains.
The current info is shown on the Slovenian railways website but this doesn't go as far as October.

the link to the International timetable finder on that page is actually to the german site bahn.com - their info is only as good as what each country gives them, which brings us back to the first problem! Trains 210 and 212 both stop at Kranj but 212 may not be running in October and 210 may run at a slightly different time.

Thats it-youre simply too early. There is/used to be a kind of minor general timetable change date-often last SUNday in sept-IF you can find timings untill then, use that as info and assume it will-more or less-most likely be same-same, use same day of week.
Some railways simply will not give out timings in this www for over 2 monthes ahead-too many things may change-or not.
And- surprise-in these parts of this world, this Balkan-, the BUS is often way more comfy, faster and more frequent. Somehow always germans tend to think it can only be done in those iron monsters.
