Hi there,

Just sat down with my friends tonight and came up with this route, Munich - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Budapest - Prague - Hamburg. Booked cheap flights to Munich and back from Hamburg to England. Leaving on the 6th of August and returning on the 19th of August (There's a very important football match I need to be at on the 20th!)

Can anyone foresee and possible problems with this route? I've had a quick look at night trains etc but need to go through it all in more detail.

Munich - Ljubljana - direct night train https://rail.cc/en/night-train/munich-zagreb-en-499/151

Ljubljana - Zagreb - there are some direct train, without supplement. travel take about 2 hours and half

Zagreb - Budapest - direct trains only in the early morning or in the afternoon. you can take regional train (longer trip) and during a day see this part of Croatia/Hungary

Budapest - Prague - take a day train. goes 7 hours but is free of surcharge. night train stops in Prague at 4 AM...

Prague - Hamburg - the most comfortable is day direct train because there is not any direct night train

book train to Ljubljana. in the rest of trains you don't need reservation.

Thanks a lot for that! A real help!

How far in advance should we book our train to Ljubljana? Will be ok booking it when we arrive in Munich? Or should we try doing it online?

try to do it as early as possible, for example here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

and if you don't want to book it you can also take a day free of surcharge train but then you will not save money on hostel :)
