Hello,

I was planning to take the train from Lulea to Abisko tomorrow. I thought I had to make a reservation at the station but I just found out I have to make the reservation online. It turns out that the earliest train I can take leaves at July 20! Trains for tomorrow cannot be reserved anymore. There go my plans (and hostel reservations)....

Does anyone know if I could just go in the train and stand/sit somewhere without a reservation, or would this be illegal? any advice? I feel really miserable at this moment, I hope someone can help.... A quick reply would be very much appreciated.

Okay, I saw that connection, but I didn't know there were no reservations for it. On the sj.se website it only says 'NO' when you cannot make a reservation, without specification of why it is not possible. Thank you very much.

Hi!

We've travelled this route last summer (Gällivare - Narvik with the overnight train coming from Stockholm) and did not need reservations. As far as I know you only need them for overnight journeys, not for travelling locally on Malmbana/Ofotbanen.

Hi, I am planning to go from Kiruna to Abisko in 20th July with Interrail. But I can`t find any train witch I dont have to reserve. Do trains that dont need reservation exist?

If not, how much does reservation cost?

Hej,

where did you look that you only find trains with reservation? All trains on this route should not require a reservation, unless you use them for overnight travel to/from southern Sweden (Stockholm, Göteborg).

A seat reservation would be 30 SEK/3€.

I looked on the OBB travel portal. There are only two trains a day to Abisko. One is INZ and one is IC, and for all this two it says supplement to compulspry reservation. But I can`t find any other trains. Where should I see that trains with no reservation exixst? I have to be shure about this trains otherwais I can have truble when I am in Gallivare. I said Kiruna before, my mistake. I am going from Gallivare to Kiruna or Abisko (I will see the weather), walk to Abisko, and than in 4 days from Abisko to Lulea. But I can`t find trains with no reservation.

Hi,

like I said, you wont need a reservation on the route Lulea - Boden - Gällivare - Kiruna - Abisko - Narvik unless you travel overnight to/from southern Sweden. If you only travel between one of the mentioned cities above during the day, even with a night train, you wont need a reservation.
The online schedule planners are not always precise. You can find a list with trains with/without reservation here :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

I have been travelling myself from Gällivare to Narvik with the night train coming from Stockholm and we were not asked for a reservation.
