hey there
i'm in Paris at the moment but am heading to dijon soon then on to Nice from there. could someone explain the whole supplement and reservation thing for me?
i've found the train and it's a TGV and my only option, so should i buy a reservation/supplement online or at the station in Dijon?
this is the only part of my trip thats still puzzling me slightly so any help would be great
cheers
lewis

Hi Lewis!

Paris - Dijon can be done either by

- TGV: 6€ compulsory reservation (can be 18€ in peak times/at short notice!)
- TER: no extra fees but slower as TGV

Example connections:
TGV: Paris Gare de Lyon 0824 - 1006 Dijon
TER: Paris Gare de Bercy 0720 - 1016 Dijon

Dijon - Nice is similar; either by TGV (either direct or on parts of the route) or by slower TER without reservation fee.

Examples connections:
TGV: Dijon 0916 - 1527 Nice
TER: Dijon 0633 - 0835 Lyon Part Dieu 0925 - 1303 Marseille 1429 - Nice 1704

It is advisable to get a TGV on this route since TER connections would be too slow. Go to a station in Paris and ask for the reservations and connections there. :)

Cheers for the quick reply flow, i've got my Paris-Dijon trip already sorted for tommorrow (and glad you confirmed i'd got the right one) for 13:20 to arrive in Dijon sometime after 3. i'm then staying with my grandparents for a few days and going on from there.
Im not particularly bothered about the length of the journey as i'll hopefully be booking a hostel quiite near the station, would the TER train be busier than the TGV? i'm aiming to spent as little as possible on extra train charges.

alos just something else that i was wondering, how exactly is the interrail ticket used? do you just go to the ticket barriers and show a guard who will let you through a gate, or is it different?! i've only ever used ordinary train tickets so just wanted a heads up so i know what to expect.
cheers for your help again Flow

What kind of InterRail ticket do you have?

The train tomorrow probably is the TER Paris Bercy 1320 - 1616 Dijon then. :)

For Dijon - Nice I'd try to get a 6€ reservation for a TGV connection right when you arrive in Dijon tomorrow (or if you have enough time in Paris Bercy) - given that you already know the date when you are leaving for Nice.
If you want to go without supplements I'd recommend to get the connection I mentioned above (early from Dijon but as far as I've seen there is no other good connection without supplements).

OK, if you have a 1 month pass the only thing you need to do is to fill in every journey (departure time, dep and arr station) in the travel report which is attached to the ticket.
At most stations there are no barriers so just enter the train and take a seat. Obviously you need an extra reservation if it is a train with compulsory reservation - see the lists here
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

The free connection Dijon - Nice is not yet in the railcc database but I mentioned it in my first post:
:arr: TER: Dijon 0633 - 0835 Lyon Part Dieu 0925 - 1303 Marseille 1429 - Nice 1704

I'll have a look and try to fill in some connections tomorrow. ;)

It's only my second night in Paris out of my month so i'm sure i'll be asking for advice again at some point!
Cheers again

Yeah no problem, that's why we run the forum . :)

So just get to station tomorrow in time, have your ticket and passport/ID with you and fill in the trip in the travel report. And enjoy.

hey Flow

Again i need some info. is it possible to buy the supplement for the Dijon-Nice train on the railcc website? i've searched the link you gave but couldn't find it or it came up saying error?!

The train ride today was a success....after literally snapping the bench in Bercy station....but i didn't get caught so it all went smoothly.

Hi.
The best is to buy it directly in Dijon at the station.
As if you order online, you have to calculate as well with a delivery time of 3-7 days.
