Greetz,
I dont own a creditkard (sure will for next interrail ...., but its simply too late now to get one)
Is it sufficient to call a hostel and tell them, you want this free bed (that you found out they have via railcc) on telephone? any XP ?

Humm...in my experience some/many hostels always keep some beds free for guests who arrive without a reservation.
I'd say if you have a list with some nice hostels for each city you will surely find a place in one of them if you give them a call beforehand. If it is a nice hostel they will reserve the bed for you, if not, well than they are just keen on quick money and dont deserve that real travellers stay there. ;)
