Hi there,

didnt find anything about my question in the forum, so there it is:

if im travelling alone, would you advise me to only sleep in dorms / trains? My first time, but i consider camping a little bit dangerous for my property, cause i can lock my things up in hostels, but do you know how this works if youre camping?

i dont want to take my whole stuff if im exploring a city (or even pack my tent and build it up at night, cause it may be gone if i come back).

and: how do you manage sleeping in general, as i saw dorms cost you about 25 euro pp (as do nighttrains) ... makes a 22 days trip cost you 550 euro only for sleeping? - am i doing sth wrong? -> is wild camping the solution (my trip is france/spain/portugal ... may be true, its more expensive than eastern europe ....)

thx for advice!

Hej,

sorry for answering late... :os

Well, if you are camping you always have to leave tent and the big backpack behind at the campsite when going to town during the day - no differnce whether you are alone or not.

When I am travelling I usually use overnight trains (mostly sleepers or couchettes nowadays since I prefer that extra comfort over a regular seat...at least if I am travelling alone since none of my travel buddies wants to spend much extra...) :D
Dorm prices can range widely depending on city and time of year. I paid 12€ in a fine hostel in LIsboa in Lisboa in February; 15€ in Palermo and 22€ in Roma also in February - if you there in summer I'd at least calculate with 10€ extra.
Especially in the big capitals camping can be a much cheaper alternative to hostels - although the campsites usually are a little outside and you will have to pay some € for public transport to get there/to the city.

Havent done wild camping that much...only possible in remote areas.. ;)

You can save on accomodation by using regular seats on night trains and also try couchsurfing!
