Hi,

Planning my route around Europe in August.

I reckon I can only visit two places in Austria. Assuming that one of them will be Vienna, I am trying to decide between Salzburg and Innsbruck for the other.

Any recommendations?

Cheers,
Chris.

Hej,

I think Salzburg is the more interesting city. Both are quite full with tourists, especially Salzburg.

Innsbruck is surrounded by a stunning mountain range...where do you want to fit this stop in your trip?

Not quite sure exactly where this will fit in. Guess it will depend which one I go for. The way I see it is that Salzburg is the more touristy and Innsbruck the more scenic - in which case I may stop at Innsbruck and use it as the way in or out of Italy. Looks like the train down to Verona (?) is a nice ride.

Well, in principle you can decide quite spontaneously since both cities are only ~ 2h apart.

Attention, the München - Innsbruck - Italy DB ÖBB EC are with a 7€ supplement now! :| :arr: https://rail.cc/en-type-country/db-oebb-eurocity/oebb-db-oebb-ec/32

Last year I had been in Salzburg... My friends and I were really excited about it and you save 1 day to visit it. However we were so disappointed! It's beautiful and worth a visit, no doubts about that... but 5h, maximum, are just fine to take a look on the city center, go to the castle and take a walk along the river.
So, think just how it fits your plan...

And btw, Verona is a really nice place, so if you choose innsbruck, give it a chance!
