Hi,

I am starting my month's tour of Europe in Belgium. One reason is that I will be away for 32 days but my Interrail pass will only last for 31 - so a Eurostar plus any Belgium option covers me for day 1 allowing me to start my pass the following day.

Question.

I know this allows you to go from Brussels to anywhere in Belgium, but can I use it on a hop on hop off basis? What I am looking to do is to go to Ostend, take the coastal tram to Blankenburge or Zeebrugge (may have to pay for this) and then get on the train back to Bruges where I will spend the night. Is this allowed or is it only one A to B connection from Brussels? Also, I guess I just show my Eurostar ticket and that will be OK - or do I have to book a ticket to my chosen destination in Belgium - which will eventually be Bruges.

Hej! ;)

You have to finish the journey from Bruxelles to any Belgian station within 24 hours after arrival in Bruxelles. Roundtrips or Hop on hop of are not allowed - you have to choose a direct connection.

If you want to do the coastal tramway, you an use the Eurostar ticket to go to either De Panne, Oostende, Blankenberge, Zeebrugge or Knokke. For the return to Brugge you will need a regular ticket - which wont be expensive, eg Zeebrugge - Brugge is 2,70€ only.

Thanks.

I guess it's not unreasonable to have to pay for the fare back to Bruges - so I'll ask for my 'any belgium' ticket to go to Ostend and then pay for the coastal tram along with the train back to Bruges.

that tram-as are all the white city+country buses in Vlaanderen (incl. city of Gent en Antwerpen) are bij DELIJN. A daypass cost just 5 €/offcar from the many tram kiosks) or 6 from driver (double those prices for a 3 day pass). A single-long distance is 3€ from drivers.
During july+august there is a specialSUMMERticket in the whole of BE-for any traintrip you can fit in (ONLY direct and NO stops allowed!) for just 7,50. NOT sat+sun-then you can use the cheap weekendreturn.
