Hi all,

I used the Route Planner to check som trains in Italy and many of them are called 'stoptrein'. Can I use my Interrail pass on these trains?

Best Regards,
Obolo

Hi.

Stoptrein means: a train who stops everywhere. A slow train = Regional train:

Which route you want to travel?

Peter :)

strange as stoptrein=dutch, highly unlikely for a Italiano!
an IR is valid on FS=state=trenitalia trains ONLY.
ALL local=regional=all stops trains cannot be reserved nor do need any extra payment. No fear for fullness-you stand if all seats taken-just like any bus at home.
ALL long distance trains, like IC, ICN and EuroStar (now named Freccia-something) need reservation, the extra for this varies with the train and length of trip-from 2 till 10 eur/seat (or the normal supplmt for sleepers).
There are-only on minor branch lines trains from other companies, that are not named FS and these must be paid for in full-at ONLY their own offices or machines. The average IR-user will not even note them. Maybe except the narrow gauge trains around the Vesuvio around Napoli-but there are FS trains nearby.

IC, E, ICN do not require a reservation!

Reservation costs do not vary! Seat in IC, E, ICN is 3€; Seat in AV, ES City, ES is 10€!

Peter,

I was thinking of going between Verona and Bologna without using EuroStar Italia. :)

I've read that you need to validate your ticket in yellow machines at the train stations when travelling in Italy. Let's say I make a reservation for 3 euros before entering a IC-train, do I need to put my ticket in this machine or is my Interrail Pass the 'validation'?

When I was in Italy in February I didnt validate neither my InterRail pass nor my reservations - and had no troubles.
