Amsterdam - Berlin - Nuremberg - Munich - Florence - Milan - Nice - Marseille - Barcelona

Hello all :)

I was just wondering whether this route (my hopefully finalised route) is a little ambitious to be in a 10 in 22 days? Looking at it now it does appear quite daunting but thanks to a lack of planning on my part and being forced to start in Amsterdam and finish in Barcelona I don't think it's TOO bad?

Researched and had helpful board members advise me on most of the journey (bar marseille - barcelona which seems really tricky) but just wondered whether this is manageable or whether I should go for a major revision ?

Hi.
Looks good your route. :)
You could even easily include Prague (cheap hostels) if you like on your way from Berlin to Nuremberg:
https://rail.cc/en/train/berlin-to-prague
https://rail.cc/en/train/prague-to-nuremberg

On your trip Marseilles to Barcelona I would include the Petit Train Jaune crossing the Pyrenees.
https://rail.cc/en/train/perpignan-to-villefranche-de-conflent
https://rail.cc/en/train/villefranche-de-conflent-to-latour-de-carol
https://rail.cc/en/train/latour-de-carol-to-barcelona

Direct Nice / Marseilles - Barcelona (also free of extra fees):

Thanks so much Peter :) Really wanted to experience train jaune but unfortunately all the Hostels in Montpellier and Perpignan have sold out which make it pretty much impossible to do in one day from Marseille.

Many thanks for the Marseilles train! - had never noticed that!

I truly can't thank you for all the help this website and the experts on here have provided :D

Hej,

Amsterdam until München no reservations needed when travelling during the day.

München - Firenze either by night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/munich-to-rome or during the day. During the day, go to Verona or Bologna with a DB ÖBB EC, these have 7€ supplement. Then change to a regional train to Firenze.

Firenze - Milano. Do it by IC or regional trains, do not use AV or ES City as these have 10€ compulsory reservation.

Milano - Nice: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/milan-to-nice

Nice - Marseille: Avoid TGV or TEOZ; instead use TER or Intercité trains (running every ~2 hours)

Marseille - Barcelona: If you go as described with the Petit Train Jaune no reservations needed

I'm quite busy now but I can help you out with more details on Sunday evening. :)

having a lovely time thanks to all the expert advice i found on here! After much deliberation ive decided that arriving in Barcelona at 10pm would perhaps be unsafe as id be wondering across town alone so ive had to give up le petit train jaune :( ! I will definitely have to take that train next year !!

Hi,

great to hear from you! :) You are still travelling right? Maybe overthink your decision then, arriving late in Barcelona is safe - been there last time in July 2010 arriving at a similar time and had to look for my hostel - no troubles at all! Metro still runs and there is even a large and safe night bus network. :)

Well have a look at the Nice - Marseille - Barcelona connections. You will see that if you want to go without paying much extra it is a long journey. If you want to travel faster you have to invest quite a lot for reservations.
