Hi,
Thought I would take a look and see what the situation is if I were trying to get accommodation at the last minute (ie today) for various cities. Most are reasonably OK, although there is not so much choice and the prices are up a bit. However Paris is a nightmare! If I booked for tonight I would have to pay about 300 euros plus!!! All the hostels are gone and there are only expensive hotels left.
Fortunately, I'm not looking to go there tonight but just thought I'd give it a go to see what the situation will be when I do try to book. I can only assume that there is some event going on and everywhere is booked.
So....
Anyone know of any cities which have a major event during August where getting a room will be impossible? If I know in advance then I can either pre-book or (preferably) rearrange my itinerary to visit when it's quieter.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hej Chris...
cant tell you about major events in each city (best is to check individually for each city) but there are some cities in my experience where it is more difficult to get decent accomodation for a good price at short notice.
- Amsterdam
- Paris
- Roma
- (London)
- (Barcelona)
Couchsurfing is always an interesting alternative to classic hostels. Although usually only an option when travelling alone or as a pair.
