Hello :)

In the end of October my boyfriend and I will do our second interrail. Last year we did through Italy only but now we want to do through some more countries.

We will have 16 days for it.

Our plan is:

Start in Barcelona
Pyrenees (if possible stop in Marseille)
Genève
Venice (if possible…we loved that city!)
Prague
Amsterdam
Luxemburg
And end in Paris

I would like to know train routes and extra fees (and if we need to book early for it). We are considering to travel in night trains from Venice to Prague and from Prague to Amsterdam.

We are open for suggestions about other cities/routes to visit/do.

Thank you,
Sue.

Hi Sue!

Well, a 10in22 pass seems to be the best choice for your route.

Close to Barcelona I recommend to do the Petit Train Jaune in the French Pyrenees :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/latour-de-carol-to-villefranche-de-conflent

Easily reachable from Barcelona with trains without reservation, direct trains runs Barcelona - Latour de Carol :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/barcelona-to-latour-de-carol or go along the coast via Portbou to Perpignan and then to Villefranche.

If you decide to go there, I can help you with the best route to go to Marseille/Genève afterwards.

Genève - Venezia: There is one direct train each day, leaving Genève at 0742, reaching Venezia at 1440 - it is with 10€ compulsory reservation! All other (fast) connections require a change of trains in Milano > thus you would need 2x10€ reservation!

There is currently no direct Venezia - Praha night train; if you want to go overnight you can use the night train to Wien :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/venice-vienna-en-236/97 and then continue to Praha (~5h) during the day (maybe a short visit to Wien as well) :)

Praha - Amsterdam night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/prague-amsterdam-cnl-456/14

Amsterdam - Luxembourg either via Rotterdam - Bruxelles or via Maastricht - Liège; the latter route is more interesting in my optionion, both are without extra reservation (if you avoid the Thalys on Amsterdam - Bruxelles).

Luxembourg - Paris is best with direct fast TGV, 6€ reservation.

I think this is enough for ~16 days; if you want you could include Carcassonne in France; or some trip through the Swiss Alps...Wien is also worth to stay for at least one day. Depends on how much time you want to spend in each city. :)

If you need more detailed help just let us know here - and if you buy your tickets via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] you can directly support all the work here without any extra costs for you. Thanks. ;)

Thank you so much 

About Le Petit Train Jaune we are actually doing our trip through Le Pyrenees because of it. We were told it´s amazing. So yes, we gonna do it!

We were already thinking about do some trip to the Swiss Alps, so if you have any tips tell me please :)

About Genève to Venice…7h it’s a long trip! Maybe would be better a night train? How much would be the extra charge in a night train, with beds?

By the way…could you please tell me what the difference between couchette and sleeper? Is it just the shower option (and the price, of course, lol)?

We are thinking about jump venice (if necessary) cuz we have been there alredy, so if we do it what would be the best option from Geneve to Prague?

How many time takes from Amsterdam to Luxemburg and from Luxemburg to Paris ?

And what route should we do if we decide to visit Carcassonne?

Regards,
Sue

there is no any good night connection between Geneva and Venice. you can go by Zurich(one hour from Geneva) and Innsbruck ( CNL night train communicated with train from Zurich). trains to Zurich and to Innsbruck are free of charge and about the night train here you have information: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/munich-venice-cnl-40463/37

couchette is less comfortable (but still is OK to sleep!) than sleeper. shower usually only in 1st class sleeper(quite expensive).

if i were you i would go to Prague instead of Venice. from Basel is direct CNL train to Prague https://rail.cc/en/night-train/zurich-prague-cnl-40470/38
train to Basel from Geneva goes almost 3 hours with one change (free of charge)

Carcassonne is between Toulouse and Narbonne (south of France)
