Hi guys,

I'm considering just travelling France for nearly 3 weeks what is the best option for train tickets.
Should I just purchase individual tickets or should I purchase a one country pass for 8 days in one month?
Haven't really got a full plan of where I am going yet, but it will be roughly like this.

Paris - Bordeaux - Biarritiz - Avignon - Nice - Lyon - Dijon - Paris.

Any help is greatly appreciated?

P.S. Keep up the good work.

well, 8 days IR pass costs 200 euro so the question is: is it possible to buy now 8 tickets for 200 euro? i think that it's too late so buy IR pass.
also even in large advance is difficult buy tickets for this route for this price.

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry but I don't understand quite what you are saying. Too late for what exactly?

too late to buy cheaper tickets (without IR so normal tickets) so you have to buy IR because it's the cheapest way in this moment.
remember also that if you want to use trains with reservation you should do it in advance, especially in quite peak time which is July

OK, I understand now. Thank you!

Yes, I will reserve my seat on the trains as I go or maybe try and hitchhike to some places.

also you can use regional trains (TER) where generally you do not need reservation and, in my opinion, are better to see the country (TGV is to fast ;) )

Cool!

I prefer the idea of the slowly train (depending on were I am going) because it means I can take in the scenery.

If you are in France any time late July late me know and I will buy you a beer, wine, or water.

Thanks for your help! :D

for Paris Bord and Dijon->Par you have to use TGV-no real TER option-too far, too slow, too many changes.
All others can be done with TER-and for these there are not even PREM discount fares. Every region has its own reduction system-depends on age (<26, >60) and many other actors-no a Brit student wont count!
also note that TGV have a VERY small quota for IR-and a RES cost at least 6€-more liklely 18 now in peaktimes. But even if you add these, total cost is lower as all singles.
