Hi all,
My friend and I are taking the following route:
Amsterdam - Brussels - Paris - Nice - Florence - Rome - Venice - Zagreb - Budapest - Krakow - Prague - Berlin.
For a few weeks now I have been trying to look in to reserving train seats but have been experiencing some difficulty. Is it the case that I can't do it from here (as I live in Scotland?)
If anyone could give me information on how to go about reserving seats, this would be much appreciated!
I have a list of the train options I can take, but just don't know how to reserve them.
Thanks in advance
Karen :)

Also - Do we have to reserve seats just now? Or is it secure enough to reserve as you get to each station for the next one? Bearing in mind we are travelling during July.

Hi Karen.
Have a look at this topic giving you links and information:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
Often you can not buy reservations online - at least the ones with the rail pass discounts.
I don't know if you want to buy reservations - or if you prefer travelling for free, sometimes with a bit longer journey times but saving a lot of money.
As examples:
Amsterdam - Brussels: do it with free IC trains instead of the expensive THALYS trains. IC doesn't requires a reservation.
Brussels - Paris: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/thalys/41
Paris - Nice: I recommend you a night train. Cheap, you save the money for a hostel and travel time:

Online booking possible.
Change a bit your route in Italy (in Italy you can save money using free Regional trains. Eurostar is with a reservation fee!).
Nice - Rome: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/nice-to-rome
Rome - Florence: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/rome-to-venice
Florence - Venice: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/florence-to-venice
Venice - Zagreb: book this train online at the Italian national rail website. And get the reservation when you are in Italy at a ticket printing machine in one of the big stations. Very easy. :)

If you want to save the money, do it by free day trains with a stop in Slovenia (Lake Bled, Ljubljana):

For the following connections, reservations are only available at stations in these or border countries. IT depends of course on the connection, if you use night trains and so on. I just gave you some examples.
Zagreb - Budapest
Budapest - Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-krakow-night-train/f3304
Krakow - Prague: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-prague-night-train/f3847
Prague - Berlin: free of reservation fees.
https://rail.cc/en/prague-berlin-train/f3360
The timing of reservations: it is for everyone the same. Book online what is possible and where you know your exact travel date.
Peter :)
