Hi,
I'll be going through Austria and Italy in mid July, and we're looking to have about 3 days or so to get between Vienna and Venice, where we are meeting some friends.
The train routes aren't exactly great, but is there anywhere along the way that is worth a stop?
Just doing some quick searching, Klagenfurt or Trento look like possibilities, but does anyone know some hidden gems along the way?
Thanks very much!

Hi!
It depends on the route you want to choose:
You can go via Graz and Slovenia like this: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/vienna-to-venice
Graz is quite nice for a day or two; Ljubljana is also a beautiful city.
Another option would be via Klagenfurt - then I would recommend to stay some time at one of the Carinthian Lakes. On this route you will have to pay a reservation for day or night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/vienna-to-venice
Trento is a little bit off route - but quite easily reachable still. You will pass through Salzburg and Innsbruck (where you have to change) first, then go via Bozen to Trento. From Trento there is one daily DB ÖBB EC without reservation to Venezia.
All routes include very scenic legs.

Thanks Flow!
Think the second option makes most sense as we're going from Venice through Slovenia and down into Croatia.
Cheers!
