Hi
Me and 2 friends are going InterRailing for the first in August and we have now ordered our pass and train tickets etc, but we are now on to accommodation and could do with some advice. We are not sure if we should just book them all in advance before we leave, book the next city before we leave the previous city, or to just turn up?
We are going to the following cities:
Paris (3 nights)
Barcelona (2 nights)
Lyon (1 night)
Rome (2 nights)
Munich (1 night)
Berlin (1 nights)
Amsterdam (2 nights)
The number of nights we are staying has depended on the time we arrive in the city and a few other factors.
Could anyone provide a rough cost of how much we expect to spend on accommodation? We will be going for budget shared hostels as much as possible, but security and safety are are main concerns.
I really appreciate any advice/tips on this 8)

Hi.
Don't book too much in advance, otherwise you are totally fixed on your route.
Good is: in most cases you can cancel the booking up to 24 hours before arrival. But you will loose the booking fee you paid.
Have a look on [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
There you will find hostels and rankings.
Peter :)

hmmm some thoughts:
peter is right, don't book too much in advance, BUT be careful about weekends and holidays, especially in big cities! August is quite a busy time, too.
It is possible to find accomodation under 20 Euros in these cities, but the average will be 20 Euros or slightly above. Obviously it is cheaper to sleep on camping sites, though you have to calculate costs for transportation to the city centre and the fact that you have to carry much more stuff.
If I might comment on your route: you might leave out Lyon and spend more time in Berlin. In my view this is one of the best cities in Europe. Also you have to be aware that you have huge distances, so you should think about night trains. You will find a lot of information on night trains in the country section of this board.
