Zurich-Munich-Venice-Rome-ferry to greece-Athens-Belgrade-Budapest-Vienna-Prague-Berlin-Brussels-ferry to the UK

FIRST TIME INTERRAILING
My friend and I have planned this trip and we will be getting the interrail one month global pass. Is this too ambitious for one month? Are the cities good or are there better ones people would recommend? We have to start near Switzerland and go to Athens along the way and end up back in the UK. These are the only conditions. Also, would people advise taking a tent because we were planning on staying in hostels but a tent gives that added flexibility I guess. One last thing, how do you reserve seats and book hostels along the way without spending a fortune with a mobile phone.

Thanks to anyone who reads this and replies - it will be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

All in all a nice trip, just the right amount of places you want to visit. However, maybe think twice if you really wanna go to Greece :arr: https://rail.cc/en/new-trains-from-thessaloniki-to-skopje-belgrade-and-sofia/f5508
A nice alternative would be Montenegro: Ferry Bari - Bar, then Kotor, Budva, Cetinje, Podgorica and on to Beograd.

Munich - Venezia maybe by night train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/munich-venice-cnl-40463/37 or by direct day train via Innsbruck

Venezia - Roma :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-rome or by hourly fast Frecciargento trains (10€ reservation)

All other trains are free of extra charge (except you decide to take a night train from time to time).

I dont think that you will need a tent for this trip as you are only going to big cities where enough (cheap and good quality) hostels are available.

Making reservations while travelling is best done either when you arrive at a station or in the hostel - virtually all have free or cheap internet access

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah we are going to have a rethink about Greece. My travel partner's cousin lives in Greece so she can update us on the situation. Is there any site or book where I could find recommended hostels in the cities we are visiting? Also, what do people get upto when interrailing. Is it sightseeing then going out in the evenings?

Hi.

Concerning hostels check this website. Including rankings: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

What you do during the day depends on you as person. If sightseeing, just chilling or only going out at night...

Peter :)
