When trying to order my IR pass (22 days) I realized that I have to provide the exact date on which I am going to start my journey. Is there a way of getting the ticket without having to decide on the exact day? I assume there isn't...
The problem is that I will be travelling with 3 friends from Canada (them obviously using the ER pass). They will aready have travelled for a month when we meet up in July in Frankfurt (where I live). We don't know when exactly we are going to leave together as we don't know when exactly they are going to arrive in Frankfurt. We were planning on leaving some time between July 7th and July 10th. If I decide on a specific date and it doesn't work out the way we planned we would be wasting days, either waiting for my ticket to become effective or me waiting for them with my ticket already active.
After reading that it is possible to get the IR ticket at my local train station I was wondering if you think it is a good idea to just get it on the day that we leave right before boarding the train? Or, alternatively, buy it at the station a couple of days before when I know about the date?

you have to buy IR pass before the journey but nobody says when exactly so you can buy even 10 minutes before trains is leaving...
and to do reservation you neither need to have IR pass

At Madrid Pta. Atocha they would not make a reservation without checking my pass first, even though I told them that this didn't make sense. Unfortunately, I had my pass at a friend's place, so I had to come back to the station on the next day, which sucked (that's the rule, sorry).
At Warsaw main station, they checked it, too.
In Austria and Germany, nobody ever checked my pass when I made reservations.
