Hi.

I'd like to ask if anyone knows how to get from Brasov to the southern Bucovia region to see the painted monasteries? Or Bucharest if the other connection is more complicated to make. And if such connection exists how long should I expect the journey to take?

Cheers

Miguel

Hi Miguel!

Suceava, the main city of Southern Bucovina, is quite well connected by train, however there are no direct trains from Brasov.

Have a look at the map here :arr: http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/romania/romania.gif

You can either go via Bucuresti or via Cluj Napoca - the route via Bucuresti is faster, ~11h or ~12h compared to ~15h via Cluj Napoca. From Bucuresti it takes ~7h.
Attention, you will need to get a reservation for all long distance trains in Romania.

Thanks alot for the information!

I think I'll go directly from bucharest to Suceava and then Gura Humorului in order to visit the remote monasteries and hopefully some tradition villages too. Then back to Bucharest and up to Brasov which is only 3 hours away anyway.

Any ideas on the prices without IR? from Suceava to Bucharest?

~20€, depending on category of train.
