My friend and I would like to visit the above places and are looking for a suitable route. These are just places we would like to see and would obviously fit in more as appropriate. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience they can bring to my query. Also, the route planner is directing me to train reservations rather than possible routes?

We are planning to be away for a month in total. Which pass would you recommend? Would the month continuous pass be best?

Hi Karen.

You are starting from the UK I suppose? :)
Here some examples, of course there are much more connections available!

London-Paris:
is expensive by Eurostar train. The cheapest option is to buy a special discounted ticket and let your ticket start in Paris then.

Information about the ferry Dover-Calais:

If you want, skip Paris (and add Berlin: good night life, cheap hostels, a lot of travellers) - use the ferry UK to the Netherlands.

Paris-Amsterdam:
If you want to save money, avoid the THALYS train.

Amsterdam-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-prague-night-train/f3747
is possible by direct night train. I recommend you to travel Amsterdam-Berlin (even using the night train and arriving early in the morning there - very nice without any tourists on a summer morning).
Amsterdam-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346
Berlin-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361

Prague - Rome
Either the route via Vienna:
Prague-Vienna: https://rail.cc/en/prague-vienna-night-train/f1677
Vienna-Rome: https://rail.cc/en/vienna-rome-milan-night-train/f1417

Or via Munich:
Prague-Munich: https://rail.cc/en/prague-munich-train/f5109
Munich-Rome: https://rail.cc/en/munich-rome-night-train/f2872

Rome - Alicante:
It is definitely a very looooong trip.
I recommend you stops in Nice(France), crossing the Pyrenees by Petit Train Jaune, Barcelona, Alicante.
An option is as well to let your InterRail ticket end in Rome and travel by ferry from Rome to Barcelona and by a normal train ticket to Alicante.

Rome-Nice: https://rail.cc/en/rome-nice/f6267
Nice-Barcelona: https://rail.cc/en/nice-marseilles-barcelona-train/f3420
Petit Train Jaune: https://rail.cc/en/petit-train-jaune-latour-de-carol/f1343

Barcelona-Alicante: https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-alicante/f6266

If you are travelling ONE full month, you could add some other stations. Like for example extend it:
Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Krakow - Budapest - Venice - Italy - ...
