Hi, we're planning on going from Berlin to Amsterdam, but en route hope to stop somewhere along the Rhine for 1 night. Has anyone any recommendations for the best place to stay here? Somewhere along a nice train route, and maybe with the possibility of a river cruise?
All help appreciated, thanks!

Hi!
You could think about going Berlin - Frankfurt/Main with a fast ICE in the afternoon, spending the evening in Frankfurt and staying there overnight and head for the Rhein the follwing morning. There is a railway on both sides of the river from which you have nice views almost all the time.
Fast IC trains run along the left/eastern side, slower regional trains run on both sides. For river cruises have a look here :arr: http://www.k-d.de/english/home/
From Köln you can use the ~2 hourly ICE trains without reservation to Amsterdam. If you have much time left you might also think about travelling through the Mosel valley as well; it joins the Rhein valley in Koblenz, frequent trains run ie Koblenz - Traben-Trarbach (a small vine village) with a change in Bullay...but this probably only works without the river cruise on the Rhein.
