Hi,

Planning an InterRail for August and my route goes through Germany, where I have a Hannover-Berlin trip scheduled.

What I could perceive in all that I've searched, Hannover Hbf is open 24hr and Hamburg is the busiest train station in all Germany. So, it makes sense that it is also open 24hr, but I'm not sure.

I place this question because I have two possibilities:

1) Hannover Hbf - Berlin Hbf | ICE 1041 (free of supplements)
0631 - 0855

OR

2) Hannover Hbf - Hamburg Hbf | ICE 272 (free of supplements)
0005 - 0135
and then
Hamburg Hbf - Berlin Hbf | ICE 1607 (free of supplements)
0600 - 0748

As I said, I would like to sleep/spend the night in one of these two train stations, Hamburg or Hannover. What would you recommend?

Hi Chico,

the main hall in Hamburg should be open throughout the night but it might not be the best place to stay.

I dont know if Hannover is open the whole night but I dont think so.

Where are you the day before you want to go to Berlin? I could look for possible overnight train connections, which probably is more comfortable than staying at a station.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

We are in Hannover the day before we head for Berlin. So:

Koln - 4th August
Hannover - 5th August
Berlin - 6th August and some more days

Then leave Hanover in the evening and stay overnight in Berlin in a hostel. There you will find very cheap and good ones!
Just my personal experience: if you only want to save some EUROs by spending a very uncomfortable night somewhere on a station it is a bad calculation. As the following day is totally lost: you are tiered.
Better a cheap hostel, meet some other travellers and have a bed for the night. :)
